The missus has had enough of the PC been downstairs so i said ill take the spare box room and make it into my little man cave :D only problem is i get rubbish signal using my TP-Link wireless card + Sky hub so i ended up grabbing a 10M OC PRO ethernet cable just set it up and had the cable running under the stairs hand rail and was planning on running it under the floorboards and into the box room but shes not happy with that. I noticed a hole around a copper pipe that goes to the rads into the box room (Bet your fed up of reading now:p)

So do you recon it will be okay to run alongside this??

thanks (sorry about the essay just thought ide explain the situation)

To save all the hassle of cable routing, have you considered network plugs? I've been using them without any issue for a few years now and they have been faultless and so simple to use.

i did consider them but i will need to get ones with plug sockets in them as all the plug sockets by the Hub are been used up so dont fancy paying £60 for them.

I can't see a central heating pipe getting hot enough to harm a network cable. It's certainly not going to bother it from a signalling point-of-view.

FFIW the network cable that's sat on my desk is rated to 75 degrees C. That's just the temperature the casing will start to slowly degrade at.

If it was a mains cable it'd be a completely different matter.

I do this, I have a part of my ethernet run in very close proximity (1cm or less) to a central heating pipe. I get the 30mbit out of my internet connection so that's me happy enough. I've never tested the throughput to the router on the other end though. It certainly hasn't melted the cable or anything like that.

Should be fine, can't imagine the pipe would get that hot it'd start melting the sheathing. If you are worried about that you could buy some of the outdoor armored stuff that comes with a harder coating.

I've had some network cable cable tied to a hotwater pipe for about 5 years, so far it's not caused any problems :) (it was the easiest/tidiest way to get it round part of the house).
