I have a little office in a metal building container at the bottom of my garden and i am wanting to get internet access to it, i am wondering if using a 25m ethernet cable and running it out of a hole in my house and 20 meters to the bottom of the garden would actually provide a connection?

Internet Virgin: 150mb
Router: Superhub

I have already tried using the TP Link plugs but for some reason they wont pair up at that distance. I even tried pairing them in the house and taking the computer down their but it didnt work.

ok so if i buy a Cat 6 ethernet cable that should work ? would i need anything else like a bridge or something? I was hoping i could just run the cable down there and it should work fine

a ethernet cable that long will cause no issues whatsoever (i think the limit is 100metres)! Plug it directly into pc or add a switch if you want more sockets to add other devices

I'd use external grade cable and ideally of going in the ground it could do with being armoured. If not armoured them conduit or a minimum of hose pipe to protect it.

Also if you run 1, run 2 in case 1 does get cut.

I guess it depends on the routing of the cable. if it's likely to be cut by a lawnmower or spade during any gardening work then digging the lot up again to lay it again is going to be a PITA so the armoured stuff would be best. If it can be routed in such a way so that's unlikely then use the weatherproof stuff highlighted above.

i was thinking about this and just running it through a hosepipe

would i need anything else apart from the hosepipe and ethernet cable? i can just run it from the suberhub in the house to the computer in the garden container right ?

It would be a pain trying to get the rj45 connector through the hose pipe. It would be much easier learning how to crimp an end and making it yourself.

Yes you could connect 1 end to the SH and the other to the PC, effectively all you are doing is adding in a really long cable so it's not a problem.

I'd go with Bledd's suggestion.

Get External Cable, you will struggle to find a reel of less than 100m so you might as well run two runs while you're at it. Then buy two single gang surface mount backboxes, two single gang dual module face plates and four modules and a punch down tool. Then use pre-made patch leads to go from the modules to your switches/router/other equipment etc.

I'd clip the cable up along a fence if possible, keep it off the ground. But otherwise, running it in hosepipe or similar wouldn't be a bad idea.

Select two of these, each with '2' modules selected.

2 of these

Don't buy a pre-made cable with ends already fitted, the network ends mean you'll need huge holes in the walls.

As someone who's tried loads of different modules / cable manufacturers, trust me and go for the ones suggested.

Yes, you can get cheaper on ebay, but they're usually cheap junk.

You'll also need a punchdown tool to put the cable ends into the modules (it's an easy job)

This is what they look like..

I dare say, this ebay one would be fine..

edit, no point using cat6 for this.
