Ethernet cable types

What's the problem? The point MilanoChris made was posted after the OP's question had been answered and didn't confuse the issue.

As far as I'm concerned if it has plugs at both ends it's a patch cable.

But it's not though really. Patch cables is the term from patch panel to switch (or router or another device) hence 'patching in the cabinets to make points live'. You wouldn't patch from pc to pc or pc to switch.

Well not by my terminology but I know nothing.

You still call a cable with two RJ45 plugs an Ethernet cable.
