need to buy some ethernet cables it's for someone who has no clue about computers so they need to be proper cables and not wiring needing to be crimped, etc.

thing is though they need a decent sized cat 6 cable (15-25m) and then also some fast cat 5 cables to be used with POE and roughly 15-20m in length each.

it's for a cctv setup, already have the cameras and POE router, just need the cables.

obviously the cable from the router to the PC needs to be the fastest (cat 6) and then those going to the cameras needs to be fast but doesn't need to be as fast at cat 6 just to help stop any bottlenecks, etc.

does any cat 5 or cat 6 cable work with POE or do you need special POE cables?

also wheres the best place you buy cables from (not cabling) a lot of fake stuff on ebay/amazon, so wondering what legit sources there are out there that are cheap.

Rather than splitting hairs, it would probably be just as easy to spec the whole thing in Cat6 cable. There is no speed difference between Cat5e and Cat6.

Any cable will be fine for PoE as long as it's 4 pair you're good to go.

Not sure it's "ok" to quote suppliers as technically overclockers do sell premade network cables.

Cat5e would be more than sufficient for both needs here as it can do 1gb upto 100m.

POE will work on any Cat5e cable (even some really bad ones) just as long as all 4 pairs are connected through.

I would just buy the cables from OCUK - and get 5e or 6 whichever you want as the prices seem fine.

Echo the comments about Cat5e being fine for the job. If both are priced pretty much the same, then sure go for Cat6, but its really not needed in this case.

If they are being used externally, then you would need to look external grade stuff.
