Ethernet connection issue

Hello all,

I am really struggling to figure what the problem I have is, I have googled everything and not found a solution. I am using windows 10.

I have an on-board network port via my motherboard which is a Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 which uses the Killer E2200 Ethernet controller.

So my PC is connected via a LAN cable and I am getting the network icon on the task bar which says I have internet access. I can use the PC fine for a certain amount of time, and for example if I am playing PUBG after a few games the connection seems to stop working, I have to go back to desktop and quit out of the game. When i check the network icon it still says I have internet access. Then when I try to load websites I get a blank screen on google chrome saying "err_connection_failed". Some websites do load but if they do it will be with limited information, almost like it is partly loading the page.

If I run the troubleshooter it doesn't detect any problems. If i reset the network adapter it doesn't solve it, only thing seems to work is rebooting (although it doesn't work everytime). I have updated all my drivers to the latest, I have completely removed them all and started again and it still seems to happen. I've also tried using different ethernet cables and ports but this makes no difference.

I am going out of my mind trying to figure this out!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would recommend removing Killer's drivers and install the Atheros alternatives, but seems Gigabyte doesn't provide it for your board. A quick search doesn't seem to help finding the chip it uses either.

There's this guide for the E2200 which I guess you could try, but no idea if it'll work with your E2201.

There have been s number of issues reported with the Killer Lan ports. You need to get the latest Atheros drivers and if that doesn't help get a Lan card.
Andi.

I did try the guide posted above by Orcvader and it did not resolve the issue, even with the Atheros alternatives I still got the same problem

I would suggest trying a new card then. Disable the on board LAN device when you put the card in. Actually have you checked if there is a BIOS update?
Andi.

Yes I have updated to the latest bios, the problem seems to of started after I updated the bios and after I upgraded my graphics card from an EVGA GTX 760 to a MSI GTX 1060.

Killer software has been removed, using the Atheros drivers. Still get the same issue. It does it even when the PC is left to sleep also, I could go away for a few hours, come back and wake the PC and it will have no connection (apart from the google sites).

It is connected to the router directly via ethernet sockets i had installed when renovating my house, I have also tried through a powerline adaptor also and the problem still exists.

It seems strange that the internet issue fixes itself after i reboot the PC (disabling the network adapter and re-enabling doesn't solve it).

Think I am gonna have to bite the bullet and get a ethernet card to try. Just seems strange this issue only started after updating bios having just brought a new gfx card.

Wow, what, you can access Google? Sounds more like a WAN issue maybe dns?
Andi.
Yeah I read on other sites that because google uses IPv6 then that is why i can still access google sites. But I seem to lose IPv4 connectivity. I have tried using the google dns settings (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) in the IPv4 network setup, it still doesn't work. And like i said it works fine for a few hours and then it loses connectivity. It has me completely baffled lol.

I think I would try getting the network card and settings reset to default. Remove the device from device manager, reboot and disable LAN card in bios. Restart Windows and uninstall and delete LAN driver downloads. Restart pc re-enable device in bios let windows do it's bit. See what happens.

Well I have disabled the on-board LAN and installed a new pci-e LAN card and the problem still exists :mad: I can't even connect to the router hub page when I lose connection yet I can load google pages, youtube etc!!

Is the network connection set up as a public network? If so change it to private.
What do you see if you do an ipconfig from a cmd prompt?
Andi.

It is set to private already, from cmd prompt I get the following (this is while my internet is working - i need to wait for it to stop working to do it when it's down)

Windows IP Configuration
