Wondering if anyone has done this recently? I have the opportunity to plan ahead and run ethernet around my next house.

I get that wireless is easy enough, but I always end up having a mix of wired and wireless and I'm fed up of being forced down the route of having to use ISP routers.

Clueless as to where to run the cables, believe quite a few people do it outside of the house somewhere discreet?

Numerous threads on this exact subject over the last 12 months. Most questions have been asked and answered (often in excruciating detail).

A mix of wired and wireless is to be expected, they both have their place.

What's forcing you to use ISP provided routers? Select an ISP that allows you to use your own equipment and then use what suits you.

You want to start by deciding where you want your network points to be (and how many) and finding a suitable central location the cables can run back to.

First question is are you renovating the new place? 2x simpler if you are.

If you have any electrician friends, I would ask them for a hand if you're not confident with picking routes etc yourself. It's bread and butter stuff to them.

Completely agree with Glanza.
As Bledd mentioned, depends on if you're renovating or not - that will play a part in the decision.
I did a full house refurb (was a wreck) and needed new electrics. I spoke to the sparky and asked him to run the cabling when he did the electrics.
I ran CAT6 shielded cables.

For me, I'm glad I did. I have 2 ASUS wireless points with overlapping coverage connected via the Ethernet cabling.

My thought process was it was £200 for the cable and the sparky ran it for free (as he had to run other cables too and it meant an extra happy customer) and who knows where we will be in terms of technology in 5 years. For me, I've spent £200 for cabling that I know I have there for any setup I want in future as opposed to wishing I had it if I need it.
Also, the Sky Q mini boxes I found a bit touchy when on wireless. Plugged them into the wire and have been perfect since.
Only my 2 cents, but I wish you the best with whichever route you go down!

Will the existing flooring be coming up?
Doesn't take much to hide all the cables under the floorboards and then branching off where needed.
