Hi all,

My connection has been fine for nearly 3 years but has started to play up in the last couple of days. My PC is wired via ethernet to my router (an original bt home hub).

Every few seconds the network center toggles between the two screens below.

After running the troubleshooter the screen below is displayed.

I have tried 3 different cables (which connect my laptop to the router perfectly in both router ports) and have tried both ports on my PC to no avail. The connection cannot be made using either port.

I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the LAN drivers. I am running a Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10 dual boot and neither OS can connect. I am completely at a loss to what might be causing this and any help would be most welcome.

Seems like the router to me. Maybe IP conflict or a connection problem. Since you're trying to connect to the router, but it is not connecting. It knows the router is there, but the router seems to be the problem.

It's been OK now for a couple of days again - I took a can of air to the ports on the PC and gave it a blast to clear out any dust.

Thankfully it worked!

Thanks for your reply.

Stick a pin in the back of the HH and reset it, if it's an original HH1 then it's in the region of 5+ years old. I expect it's just getting flaky.

After a reset if it still does not connect, make sure that you are in the same subnet.

After that, if you can try:

-A different machine connecting to the HH
-A different router in place of the HH
