I am going to be changing the location of where my computer is in my living room. The PC is currently connected via Ethernet cable to the router.

What i would like to know is how reliable is a wireless connection to the PC if i were to buy a wireless adapter. Or should i get a telephone extension socket put in so that i can have my router closer and still use the Ethernet cable?

I hope this made sense.

kinda, i have an open planned living room/ dining room, its going to the complete otherside to where it is now. just wondering, whats the longest Ethernet cable can i buy?

Wireless is plenty reliable. Especially if the router is in the same room as your pc. You will easily get full use of your internet connection.
However you won't be able to transfer files to other pc's via the router as fast. But if that's not an issue. Wireless will be perfectly fine.
So its up to preference.

Yes, I've been using wireless on my main PC for over 2 yrs. It has been totally reliable for internet use, and I get full speed from my Virgin 20Mb connection. File transfers between PCs however are painfully slow as stated above

sorry to be a noob but, when you mean file transfers does that also include streaming to the xbox 360 or playstation 3?
