Hi all,

let me explain as best I can (I hope :) ) a friend of mine has a bt infinity router it's quite an old router, the first I think. The router is in the main bedroom of his house (mum and dads room) I asked him why and he told me that the bt engineers at the time said this was the best place to put it (easiest probably) anyway back to the problem his pc sits in the furthest away room from the router now he's too far away from the router for a wireless connection so he has it connected via two ethernet plugs one beside the router and one plugged into to the electric socket beside the computer both connected by ethernet cables from the plugs to the router and the computer, one day last week he started to get disconnect problems until finally, the computer wouldn't connect at all, so he bought new ethernet plugs thinking this was the problem but they wouldn't connect either, so he tried taking the computer to the router and connecting directly, this worked the computer worked straight away with no problems but then he tried to connect via the ethernet plug it again refused to work. Going into his router settings and it looks normal, so I cant understand what would have changed! I did take the computer to my house and tried it first wirelessly then wired directly to the router and both worked the only thing I didn't do was try it via my ethernet plugs which I probably should have lol.
I'm not the best with internet problems so I thought someone on here might shed some light on this strange problem. It has me baffled.

This sounds like the powerline adapters are going in to power saving mode, quite an annoying yet typical problem people encounter. Have a google around for the make and model of the adapters and power saving mode problems, someone somewhere will have had a similar issue and there should be some way of disabling it.

Thanks for the reply Zefan, I'll have a look into the power saving mode & let you know.

EDIT := its definatly something to do with his bt router as I'm writing this on his computer plugged into my ethernet plug in my house and its working perfectly, I was in his house earlier and the computer would not connect via his brand new ethernet plug, only two lights were on on his ethernet plug the small house icon wasn't ilumited.

Do they need to be paired? My tplink ones and old zyxel ones had buttons to bond them to each other.

What does the missing led mean on the make and model you have?

I've had similar issues with my tp-link adaptors. Very inconsistent in the connection. Sometimes they connect for a while and then wont connect at all. Plug them in a few days later and ok for a bit. I have a feeling mine are down to seperate ring mains causing it to get confused. Maybe his is a similar issue if its in a far point from the router. Maybe an extended room or something?
