ethernet question related to gaming

Hi I recently moved rooms in the house and since I dont have a long enough cable wire from my virgin media socket I had to settle with a long ethernet cable 18 or 15m i think and ive noticed a lot lately that my ping is high im not sure if its my PC setup or if its just my crap net. thanks in advance

i think its a cat6 cable what I bought, im with virgin media i used to get a avg or 19-30 ping on most games lately ive been hitting 120-160

I ran a ping test I got a avg or 1ms

thats what I always thought but I wasnt sure if it applied to cable internet as i used to be with adsl when I lived in my old house

only thing I can think is its my (4 letter word) internet or my rig which I highly doubt as its in multiple games and i know tf2 would not lag with my rig

no settings have been changed on my pc i have a ethernet wire into my router just like I always have and the router never gets messed about only logged in to check the attached devices and change the p/w its hard to tell as I run speedtests and the ping isnt a joke or anything
