There is a ethernet port on the back of the new telewest tv drives.

Does anyone know what this is for?

I am guessing that there is an internal modem inside but could it be used to access the hard drive in the box?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but my knowledge is very limited on this.

Cable internet?

That was what i was thinking but was kind of hoping I could use the hard drive in the TV Drive to map to my network so I could easilt transfer progs to dvd. I know TV drive can output to a dvd recorder but just wondered if it would be possible.

I seriously doubt it, but I'm not at all familiar with that hardware.

A DVD recorder would just connect to it the same was as a TV does. For it to be able to transmit videos through the RJ45 it would have to be running some sort of server software, FTP or something. Not likely IMO.

I think I read on avforums that it's actually disabled by telewest at the moment. When they're ready to use it they'll enable it via a firmware upgrade.

I can see it being used for IPTV/VOD/Interactive services eventually.
