Anyone have any news on this? ive decided its not worth me getting a wireless access point for the wii only as its about 1 meter away from my router and it would be the only thing using the wireless.

So any news people? :)

No news on it yet. I am surprised that so many people are happy about wireless only. Oh well.

I guess a lot of people have them in their living rooms, so either aren't connected at all or have a wireless network in any case to allow for things like this.

Top man :)

Id rarther have this as i really dont like wireless lol.... i dunno.. im an electrician maybe its that lol... but ive had hassle with wireless a fair few times.. but never get any problems with wired :) would be different if i had a laptop tho,

It's all a bit potty really considering this Wiiconnect 24 thing is a much touted feature. I bet not that many households have a wireless router.

Just a quick question for when my Wii arrives: I have a wireless router. Will I be able to connect the Wii straight out of the box or will I need a usb adapter?

Aye, it works straight out of the box. Just enter the SSID, what type of encryption you're using on the router, and Robert's your mother's brother... oh, unless you're using MAC address filtering on the router, in which case you'll need to add the Wii's MAC to your approved list.

I dont know if its my router but my Wii is extremely temperamental at connecting even though the router is in the room directly above me. Laptops etc all connect fine, just the Wii is very tempramental. I wouldnt bother buying one of Datel's Lan Adapters as they aren't in stock even though they say they are on the site.

that's a third party adapter, it might be worth getting a usb wifi adapter and running it through your PC, nintendo do one for the DS already, it's compatible.

Nooooo! Don’t order from them, I unfortunately already have… I received an email the next day saying they don’t have them in stock when they say they do on their site… I have emailed them a few times regarding the matter but I haven’t received a reply. They are clearly false advertising, will try and get in touch with them tomorrow.

Saw somewhere that some people were having trouble getting a stable connection if their routers were set to mixed mode, but specifying it as purely 802.11G worked fine. Might be something worth looking into.

The Wii doesn't work with 802.11g - the card is a Mitsumi DWM-W004 WiFi 802.11b wireless module. So you need your router either set to b or mixed b and g.
