Its all on computers, they would be able to easily run a report on all transactions during the period and then correlate them to people who did naughty and took money that wasn't theirs and just "take" it back surely.

similar has happened here many times, ATMs paying out double etc, unless the bank holds its hands up and admits fault they will rcover it
