Hey,

Anyone use Etsy here to sell?

I made a sale last night, was for a 3d printed item.

My first sale on the platform, although I've sold dozens of these models on eBay.

I wasn't aware of the fee structure, I presumed it would be similar to eBay... how wrong I was.

£45 sale plus £5 shipping.
The combined item price and shipping to make £50 sale.

Then they took £8.50 in fees for standard sale... £3.50 higher than eBay.
Then they took £7.50 for offsite adverts....
Huh?!

In the end, I'm left with £32.50 from a £50* sale...

Which is a shame, as the materials needed to print the model are £15...

I've removed the listing from Etsy... and will stick with eBay...

OK what planet do they think sellers exist? The costs of items ends up being hyper inflated simply due to fee's!

Excessive yeah but there are few calculators you could use before adding your stuff on. You'll find some people add things on and leave minimum room for profit, mainly hobbyist folk but they are damaging the market for people who are wanting to actually make a living from it.

What are you printing? A house? £15 of material? So you are using 1kg of filament??

I'm pretty sure you can turn off the off-site adverts part. My wife has made a healthy amount on etsy and although the fees were enough to push her to use insta/her own website mainly now, she hasn't ever had that level of fees going on.

I found how to. Took a while to find it though.. they hide it well.
