Important for those of us who game on TV's or plan to buy one.

Although the article centres on 8k Tvs you will see from the table the maximum power limits on other Tv's. So a 4k 55" panel will have a maximum wattage of 84 watts (my current 4k 55" Oled uses 110w). As the article says manufacturers will have to cut features to meet these limits. Even though this is an EU regulation I suspect manufaturers will alter all models will to be sold worldwide (I cannot imagine them making 2 different models for EU and non EU).

The EU brought in similar regulations in relation to vacuum cleaners some years ago.

Probably won't be long before something similar happens to Graphics cards

There are already threads about this in the monitor and the TV forums

I think it's ridiculous but there is another EU meeting regarding this before Christmas where they're taking into consideration the arguments against it so it will hopefully change

This requirement is only for the default picture settings it ships with and not for HDR

The requirements relate to the default picture mode that a TV ships with. TVs can still offer other picture modes that consume more power as manual selections that must present on-screen a warning notification making the user aware of the increased energy consumption

My LG oled 55" uses 107W max I believe, which is a whole 23W over the proposed max - hardly going to make much difference.

When an equivalent sized plasma uses 300+W, they'd do better running a campaign to encourage people to ditch old plasma technologies.
