hi all,

We are in the process of buying our first home after renting for the last 10 years and we are keen to have outside security cameras (back garden and overlooking our parking spaces).

I was planing on getting Ring cameras as we already have a Ring video doorbell, however have heard good things about Eufy.

Does anyone know if i can rotate the camera 90 degress from the mount? We could then mount the camera on our back wall rotated 90 degrees to the left to look at our cars over the wall.

Does anyone have any experience with them or does anyone have any other suggestions?

We are looking for 2 outdoor battery cameras which we can access via an app at any time.
Local storage is a bonus rather than paying for Cloud (Ring).

Thanks in advance

I'd go ring personally but I believe ring is far inferior to Googles showing which is nest hello doorbell and nest iq cameras.

The cameras can detect humans. Track them, zoom in on their face and send you alerts and you can set up zones too so you don't get alerts from neighbours, etc.

So I'd remove the ring doorbell and get a nest hello and nest iq outdoor cameras.

Yes it's expensive but they are worth it over time.

I've already handed over 2 seperate incidents to the police within 2 years.

A break in of a neighbour and an assault outside my home which started in the middle of the road / pavement involving dunken idiots from a house party nearby.

I don't want to get rid of the Ring doorbell for now but i will check out the nest iq outdoor cameras.

A quick look at the cam shows they are main powered which isnt what i want and they are significantly more expensive.

Battery cameras are a waste of time.

If you want to go cheap you will end up buying twice.

Hikvision colorvu would be my second choice which are poe Ip cameras.

You then need one ethernet wire to each camera and a poe nvr to control them and to record the footage locally.

They will also when set up be easily accessible from a phone.

Thats the only 2 options I personally would consider. Iq cameras are very expensive but now the subscription cost is £100 a year and unlimited cameras. It's why I would pick them.

Cloud is 100 times better than local storage.

Also wifi battery cameras will chew through batteries and quality be terrible in comparison especially at night and be a pain to maintain over time.

Blink XT2 - I have two and they do the job.
I have no idea why cloud storage for Blink is free when Ring isn't.

Can recommend the eufy 2c. Sure wired cameras are far superior but for convenience and the price they aren't bad value you at all.

Imagine quality is decent and battery life isn't bad at all. Within the 8 months I've had them I have had to recharge the one three times and the other twice but are in high traffic areas and haven't gone for the optimal battery settings

I also have no issue with battery Ring cameras have a ring video door doorbell 2 and 2 of the stickupcam battery's at my Grandmas house to look after her and i barely charge the batteries and they work great and as you are with Ring already just upgrade to the £8 a month package and you can also add the ring alarm system as well. It's what I have for my Grandma. My own home I use a nest door camera as I love the 24/7 recording but I have two nest poe elite cameras front and rear and 3 internal ring cameras all with cloud storage and a ring alarm that records all cameras if an event occurs. This give an idea of quality and the app.

Too answer your actual question I have tried eufy cams and with the base station they are good. They also review highly with lifehackster on youtube so worth a look at his channel. They also do a doorbell camera now as well with local storage gets not bad reviews either and also battery power.

just checking that picture is from the Ring app of the stick up cameras?

I forgot we were considering the Ring Alarm so putting it all together under 1 subscription makes great sense. I am going to look at the Ring cams again.

Hi, Yes that is the doorbell cam 2 and 2 ring battery stick up cams and with the alarm it's a very good value monthly system. I would advise you buy 2 extra batteries you can get two for under £40 most places and then it's a 5 minute job every 2 to 3 months for high traffic area or 4 months for low traffic areas to swap them over :)

I like the look of these, can get 2 of the Cam 2s and a base station from Amazon France currently for £270. Looks like quite an elegant solution without having to run cables.

Looks like there's is compatibility with RTSP too so can store clips on a server or Synology NAS. Will give it a go I think.

I can recommend the Eufy's too. We have one at each property entrance - once we managed to get the sensitivity set correctly to avoid people walking past etc (only when the enter the drive way), we've only had to charge ours once in 12 months. The mobile alerts when activity is detected is good too.

This is going to sound really stupid, but I keep seeing things about Eufy trying to cover up that it's owned by Anker, who are Chinese. The fact its actively trying to hide it kind of puts me off wanting to buy Eufy cameras. I'm sure that there's no hidden agenda behind it, but why try to cover up when it's glaringly obvious?

I just assumed it was a sub-brand. I don't think theres anything nefarious behind it.

If anything I would find them being branded as Anker a good thing, they make good products and support them well.

I went for the Eufy setup in the end and it works well.

how are they trying to hide it? Eufy is a sub brand of the Anker group. It is published on the boxes and the websites, it is not hidden.

Did you know that Audi are trying to hide the fact they’re actually a Volkswagen?

Thanks all for the responses. I think i am going to get Ring camera as i already have a Ring doorbell and planning on getting a Ring alarm, one subscription makes sense.
