So I'm looking for car insurance and I ring up my current insurer Admiral. It's about 6:30 and the UK call centers have shut so I'm redirected to Canada. I must say that it was a thoroughly pleasant experience, indeed the Canadians are possibly better and more polite than the UK.

I must admit, it does make a change from India where the experience isn't quite of the same calibre. I didn't realise that they they used call centres in North America. Anyone know of any other company who use similarly placed or exotic call centres?

I got made redundant a few years ago when the IT support contract I was working on was offshored to Canada. At the time, the Canadian government was offering big incentives to get business to move over there and wage costs per head were about 50% of what they were over here.

From memory my replacements were generally pleasant and laid back.

If you like, send me an e-mail outlining your happiness and I will ensure it goes to the correct TM. The agent may even get a few bonus bonds also.

EUI (Admiral, Bell, Gladiator etc) also have call centres in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport and although you got through to Canada, there are still people in the UK call centre until 9pm I believe.

Do you know the name of the agent you spoke to?

As-well as being in the UK (Wales IIRC) Admiral have always phoned me back exactly when they said they would and it's been the same person. Mum took out a policy with them today and it was the same well spoken person calling her at the precise time as she'd spoken to last week when getting a quote - top marks to them.

Re other companies, whenever I've phoned them AppleCare have been good and are in Ireland IIRC.

Linksys use some North American centres for their tech support.

They were fantastic at every step, really couldn't fault it.

I thought they were is the US when I spoke to them because of the accent but the lady told me they were in Indonesia

and I agree they are very good
