I am now officially confused with this ruling(personally think it should be goal difference before head to head) cause im trying to work out the possibilities for tomorrow's game's and with this rule in theory netherlands should not be able to qualify for the quarters even if they won 10-0 and germany beats denmark.

Reason being in my head if that was case portugal would qualify because in theory netherlands can never go above denmark because of head to head and denmark can't go above portugal because of head to head.

I hope someone here has a better understanding of the rule so I know how I am calculating things.

Don't really understand it either. Greece qualified because they beat Russia and had a better head-to-head record, fair enough. With that in mind if the Netherlands beat Portugal they'll have the same amount of points but the better head-to-head record but the BBC state they need to beat Portugal by 2 or more goals so that's not head-to-head that's goal difference? :o

I think I understand it better.

So lets put this scenario in there, Portugal win 1-0 and Denmark win 1-0.
That will put Germany, Denmark and Portugal with 6 points.

Step 1) points won between the teams in question(all would have 3 so move on to next step, points won over holland don't count in this)

Step 2) Goal difference between teams in question(all would be equal on +0 so on to next step, remember goals scored or conceeded against holland dont count)

Step 3) Goals scored between the teams in question(Portugal=3, Denmark=3. Germany=1, Germany would be out automatically and then it becomes a 2 team tie breaker between the 2 teams left then head to head puts portugal 1st and Denmark 2nd)

You think im right there?

I get it now!

Fail read on my part, step 2 was skipped in Group A because there was only 2 teams in question, not 3 like there would be today.

(if more than two teams finish equal on points)

This is the part I didn't read properly.
