Happiness can absolutely be bought. Buy me a new car and the entire forum will be happy! Me because I have a new car, the entire forum because I can shut up about getting a new car at some uncertain time in the future. :p

Happiness can not be bought...

... But I would much rather cry in a ferrari.

:D at the crying in a Ferrari.

I disagree with you. I believe that the root of most unhappiness is down to money.

I believe money can definitely make people happier.

Give me a scenario where money wouldn't make someone happier, apart from say losing a loved one as obviously money can't change that.

But say it's people stressed at their work, or struggling with bills, or car problems, or living in an area that they can't get out of.

If someone had 148 million pounds and weren't happier than before they won then I pity them...

With that much money the world really is your oyster, you'd have no work, bills etc usual stress that people are under, plus anything medically related you would have the opportunity for the best treatment as opposed to nhs for example.

You could do what you want, go where you want, having that much money would certainly lift a lot of weight of people's shoulders which ultimately would lead to an increase of happiness.

Or better yet, tell me an example of what makes you or someone you know unhappy and I'll see if I can show a way money would help solve it :D

Actually here's one for you? Why are most people happier on payday? Lol

No I agree with you, I just wanted to use that line.

Money and happiness have a strong correlation imo.

Money doesn't make you complete would be more accurate.

That sounds like a great investment. :p:D

Went online and got 5 lucky dips, had a little change left so bought a scratch card and won £15 so put another 5 lines on!

I really hope I win tonight... If I did, tomorrow I would call my 4 creditors up - Pay them to clear debts. Call NPower and pay any outstanding bills and tell them to go **** themselves. Change energy suppliers.

Pop into work (on week holiday this week) and say sorry I wont be in again. EVER. To work that is but can I keep my discount card please :-)

Pay off my new boiler I have had installed today, get roof and guttering, fascias done etc. Buy out my ex and get the house to myself and my missus. Get my builder customer round to give me a quote to build my extension I have planned and get landscapers round to do my front and back gardens before xmas. Finalise my bathroom upgrade and get it all installed..

That's about it for the immediate jobs that I need doing.

Once that's all under way I would bugger off for a week to the Yorkshire coast with missus and dog. Can't go to far from home as she is pretty pregnant right now.. :-)

Get back home to find all jobs done and house nice and comfy. Relax and enjoy xmas for us and her family.

In the new year, I MAY tell some close people what I have won/managed to get hold of but other than that I will play it quiet for the foreseeable future.

We have one lucky dip for tonight.:)

I would keep it quiet. Stay working.

Tell my friends that I am beyond acing my job atm and such an asset...

Around bonus time treat myself to something big year on year...

Occasionally treat them to a holiday or a weekend away or night out.

Beyond immediate family I think it's best kept low key...

I don't think I'd stop working if I won big. Relaxing and doing nothing is fine but I think you need purpose, challenges and something to occupy your time.

I certainly wouldn't work for someone else so I'd start my own company to keep me occupied and challenge me. Doing what I don't know but I'll have the time and resources to work that out :D

How could you keep winning £143m quiet? No chance.

Depends. If you already have a good house and a good wage your lifestyle would just be stepping up a notch which could easily be explained. Unless of course you started buying things like yachts.

Some would splash out on everything, some would go from poor to rich and others would just live a slightly better life.
