European Data Use

I'm going to Ireland for the week next week, does anyone have any tips for the cheapest way to use data?

I'm on Three, who offer a £5 unlimited pass, but this would still be £25 for 5 days, which isn't too bad I guess... but thought there might be a better way?

A quick Google would suggest most of these European SIM cards are more than £25 for any decent amount, so maybe £5 a day is the way to go?

Out of interest, how are Three going to alter my phone so I can't tether? I understand they might ask me not too, which is different.
