Seems we have a new series starting this year, the EV Cup:

EV Cup is based totally around zero emission electric vehicles with race meetings initially planned to feature three different classifications of cars – CityEV, SportsEV and PrototypeEV. Each class is defined by the performance of the vehicle covering three core measuring criteria; acceleration, top speed and range.

CityEV - This class is limited to city-focused production vehicles that can be seen in use in many cities around the world. The CityEV class will feature TH!NK City vehicles (manufactured by Think Global) that have been prepared to a race specification. In addition to the modified and lightened interior and exterior changes, the vehicle will be running on the latest THINK prepared motor and battery technologies.

SportsEV - This class is reserved for sports production vehicles and offers the widest range of conceptual vehicles to date. The current SportsEV line-up includes the Lightning Car Company’s technically advanced Lightning GT that is powered by four in-wheel motors and utilising the latest NanoSafe batteries. Drawing on their rich racing pedigree, Ginetta and Westfield Sportscars present their latest electric vehicle development in the form of the Ginetta G50EV and Westfield iRACER.

PrototypeEV - The PrototypeEV class is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the latest non-production electric vehicles. With little design limitations and a wide class measurement criteria that has no performance limits, the PrototypeEV class provides a platform for showcasing the most advanced electric vehicle technologies. EV Cup's appointed Race Director, Grahame Butterworth, who was instrumental in bringing the Fun Cup to the UK, said: "The prototype category will allow constructors free reign [sic?] in terms of the design direction that they take".

The PrototypeEV class without design limitations could be really interesting if some decent manufactures get involved.

Very early days, but a decade from now this could be a major series.
