EV general discussion

If the chancellor gave me a BIK incentive the cost/benefit equation would be simpler
.... if you won the pools and had to choose one daily commuter in summertime, what would it be. ?

The problem with a BIK incentive is the non-negligible chance of the govt. doing a massive U-turn 6 months down the line and leaving you paying £££ more on a car you're stuck with for 3 years

Then I would be without a car for 6 months.
Well that does rather put a spanner in the works!

Shame really as the other models in the range trended downwards rather rapidly. The #3 Brabus is down as much as £13-15kk on list for a 75-reg car.
Be interesting to hear what sort of deal you manage to pull off if you do get one new from the dealer. :)

Big recall on VW Batteries. Only meant to be 1% of cars. But I remember one of Bjorn Nyland testing an ID Car with bad degradation. Sounds similar.
it's funny. a lot of these things are used as scare stories against EVs (not suggesting that is the case here at all)

however so long as it's done at VWs expense I would be happy to be honest

my car is still showing no degradation at 5 years old 60k miles.... but if jaguar wants to recall it and put a brand new battery into it for me they are more than welcome (esp if they give it a quick valet after ) :)

I think People need to find their own version of the truth. I think the critical part was 1% of vehicles which mitigates any scare mongering claims.

I mention Bjorn as people here will be familiar with his work and tests. Battery degradation and reduced range, will present as similar symptoms unless they actually check to see what the issue is. I wasn't saying it was the same issue. It's just interesting.

Well I find it interesting.

Interesting. Wonder if it relates to the reduced power output I’m getting on the ID. 7 - the power bar doesn’t go to the end anymore even when charged. There’s a ~10% gap and it felt noticeably slower than the ID. 4.

Stonking deal here if anyone's after a cheapo runabout (@moon man this would replace your Skoda perfectly!)

Ha I did actually look at this and work out how it would work just for my 17 mile each way commute ! I do love the space of my roomster though, especially the lift out seats , got that cement mixer in last week that I've borrowed

Isn't it the cost of ownership that counts .. but no one expect another taycanspanish inqwuisition, maybe not many private individuals who took the depreciation hit on them though.

Decent lease deal on the Hyundai Ioniq 6N (with Vision Roof) £500pm on a 1+23, 5k miles PA, (£80 extra for 10k but cheaper to pay for miles at end, awaiting in writing mileage costs.)

27kwh...

2015 called, they want their Leaf back :p

I joke, would definitely make a nice 2nd/commuting car for a family with another bigger/longer range vehicle

Yeah it's not gonna be breaking any records or anything but a good honest reliable little mode of transport for £9k is excellent. Second car, first car for young parents, whatever. I'm glad cars like this exist tbh.

If the battery was bigger I could probably man-maths myself in to buying one for the daily commute but at almost 100 miles a day I need something chunkier, plus home charging isn't an option for us atm so that'd be far too many visits to charging stations.
