DC in the house? Wut
if you read the V2L infrastructure vw plans car appears to output DC so you need a convertor in house which existing solar installs could provide

maybe ioniq with 800V where they re-use the motors convertor, or something like that, for AC output, would be cheaper/more efficient.

If you knew rather than regurgitate. You would know you need a bidirectional charger for V2H or V2G which is a DC-AC inverter. The battery only outputs DC and a solar panel won’t help you convert nor its inverter as you still need a way to get the energy from the car

Hyundai already have V2L already on the CCS port with a peak of 3.6kW via a 3 pin adapter using the onboard inverter. V2L exists on many other cars too but only low W. Eg a 300W 3pin in the VW buzz

Why is the fact you can one pedal drive even being mentioned. And what’s this delay in a patrol car. Anyway. It’s just a baiting few facts that we probably don’t need to go into here

One pedal drive is fantastic - I really missed it when I had an ICE courtesy car a few weeks ago, and as far as I'm aware there is no ICE which can do it?

As for "delay", unless you have a CVT, your ICE is going to have gears which results in non-linear power delivery and brief dips when changing gear; granted this is vastly improved with modern automatic transmissions, but it does still exist.

Let's not get started on turbo lag :p

The same as home cameras tbh. You would hope that it deters people from damaging Tesla's a little though.
Fair point although they do also provide a physical visual deterrent. I doubt many non Tesla owners really know about it and with the drain it causes is it really that commonly used?

I use mine all the time when shopping etc. But an overnight hotel stay would require some thought.

Remember if someone bumps you parking then you will likely be able to get their reg.

The IONIQ5 using E-GMP has a dedicated unit called the ICCU under the back seats for the V2L, nothing to do with the inverter.

When are you going to give up with this guessing Pope, we should call you Plato cos of all the theorising.

Don't you just end up with footage of some random smashing your window or keying your car though? I mean, it's not like a dash cam where you can use it to prove liability.

Sort of but then stuff like this happens:

Some people have had success posting the camera footage on local Facebook groups to identify a person who damaged their car and got them to either pay or got the police involved. That short of thing is shared like wild fire on social media, everyone loves a good local scandal at the end of the day.

I don’t make a habbit of pulling the footage from my car but someone has had a NIP off the back of footage from my cars cameras. Occasionally you witness something so unacceptable you just can’t ignore it.

ID buzz is great. Never driven a car that gets so much attention and it’s so useful.

The high driving position is really comfy and it’s easy fast enough. This is where Ev excels. Replacing a dirty noisy diesel where u have to row the gears to get anywhere.

Sir I must apologise for my rant the other day

Buzz is a lovely looking thing

Tritium field service engineers are driving around in the vw id buzz vans.
Saw 2 guys in them today repairing a zest rapid charger.

Looked nice even as a van.

Three(!) random people asking me about the Buzz today while doing shopping/lunch. And mine is silver, I didn't think it would get any attention vs a yellow, green or orange one. I've never owned a car that has drawn so much positivity from people. I'm also going to take back a bit of what I said about 'fun' driving and EVs. Out of every EV we've had, this is the one I do actually get fun from driving.

That sounds more like enjoying owning rather than actual driving. Guess its a fun vehicle if pricey.

We've had MPVs for years, always loved the practicality of them, especially when travelling.

My problem with EVs is they are soulless. Yeah they are quick in a straight line but so what. Give me a living breathing ICE everyday of the week over a whining electric motor.

Everyday of the week?

Cherry picking a handful of unrepresentative sports cars is disingenuous.

Vast majority of driving is mundane and the vast majority of ICE cars are mundane.

I dropped into rugby services just before lunchtime today, Christmas travel was in full swing and it was very busy.

Both Tesla and Gridserve had one unit down (I’ve not actually ever seen all 12 gridserve units working) which is less than ideal.

Tesla had 2-3 of their 28 slots free for the 15 mins I was there. The charging speed was okay but not amazing, I expect we were up against the site power limit but the turnover of cars was good.

Gridserve consistently had 4 cars waiting with a martial managing the queue.

It would have been messy without those additional 16 Tesla units put in earlier this year and it soon will not be long before they will need more in the area.
