EV general discussion

can pay/declare it when you do the annual VED online - juicy contract for fujitsu.

The model we currently put a deposit on was a 2021 73kwh 4WD It seems rather good price of around 18K with 30k on the clock.
haven't these just got the $$ battery coolant check/replace raised before on here.

Yeah as someone else said in here, just have VED linked to something simple like weight as it used to be for CO2 on ICE cars, its not perfect but its simple and would catch most of the issues.

They have unfortunately. It seem to be the only ev so far I've found that ticks all boxes for the price and the my partner likes.

It's not a big deal in reality, the general services are every 2 years and coolant at 4 years, so that one you are buying will have been done, and it's £300-400, but I'd check what Cleevly charge first.

Mine is due it’s 4 year service in April a nice £550. It’s not 4 until Nov but previous owner did the 2 year service early for some reason. The 2025 models no longer use a separate battery coolant and just have the one standard cooling system which has a 10 year life.

Any Volvo EX90 owners here? I took one for a drive recently and found it to be quite impressive despite some frustrating design decisions. Having everything controlled through the touchscreen is far from ideal but the execution is better than the XC90. I liked it better than the alternatives so ordered one - delivery expected in June.

Regarding charging at home through a 7kW Podpoint - what percentage/range can I reasonably expect from a 4h charge overnight? My Podpoint isn't compatible with Intelligent Octopus Go so it's on the standard Go tarrif. I'm trying to work out if it will be worth changing the charger to one that is compatible, or just sticking with what I've got.

Looks like I can add the Volvo EX60 to the list as a future potential car.

Up to 503 miles WLTP
up to 112kwh usable battery
680hp / 3.9 0-60 (lol why...)
2400kg towing capacity

£56k base with RWD 5.9 to 60 and 385 miles WLTP (80kwh)

+3k for AWD, 4.6 to 60 and 410 WLTP (91kwh)

+8k for AWD 3.9 to 60 and 503 WLTP (112kwh)

+1.5k for the towbar

So 66.6k for big battery and tow bar less what ever discounts are availble at the time - Nice.

Base ('plus') seems well equipped, the 'ultra' starts at £62k and adds:
  • B&W sound system,
  • electrochromatic roof,
  • higher defintion matrix headlights (base spec are also matrix),
  • ventilated seats,
  • 4 way lumbar support vs 2 way lumbar support
  • rear tints,
  • 21" over 20" wheels,
Not sure I'd bother with the Ultra for another £6k.

What makes it interesting to me is that when towing a standard caravan, the range topping P12 should get around 180-220 miles range, thats good enough IMO.

EDIT: Tesla Model Y performance is £62k, I'm not sure why you'd bother when you could have this for £65k.

Ultra seems good value for money, isn't that significantly cheaper than a Polestar 3 Prime?

Yes although the Polestar 3 is a bigger car and the EX90 is a closer equivilent isnt it?

The EX60 is also on a newer SPA3 platform where as the above are on the older SPA2. The Polestar 4 is on the their SEA platform so different again.

Standard Octopus Go is 5 hours discounted rate which should be good for around 100 miles of added range (assuming an economy of 3 miles per kWh).

Spending £650 plus installation to get an extra hour and pay 1.5p/kwh less probably isn’t going to pay back anytime soon.

If it breaks, sure, until then, don’t bother.

That looks good, but looks like less boot space and frunk space than my model Y.

When I replace mine in 3+ years (maybe 5+years) time tho it'll be on the list! Main thing also is used prices, it's great that model Y has some crazy depreciation so cheap used prices
