EV general discussion

You sound like you've done the same as me. Got mine 2 years ago and thought the depreciation had stabled, but nope! There was still some left lol.

My plan is to keep it until it breaks or I can't repair it myself and the cost is too expensive.

I could have got a Skoda Superb / Octavia VRS for about 21k but got the I-Pace for not much more as the cost vs new was too hard to pass up!
Yeah thought the same, how can it go any lower.. just goes down and down lol. Should have sticked with petrol in hind sight.

Anyone running a 'Juniper' Model Y? Happy with it? Or indeed a 'Highland' Model 3?

I'm starting to think it's time for an EV soon, I've been impressed with the latest Model 3 and Y when driving them, and I'd value the Supercharger network. Elon Musk is a bit of a downside but I'll try not to hold that against the car itself. :p

I was originally looking at the Model 3 but with the new trim levels (RWD/Premium/etc) the AWD Model Y isn't much more than a Model 3, so it's tempting. I like the look of the Y too.

The Model Y I drove recently was the 'RWD' version, with the covered roof etc, and while it was perfectly adequate, it did feel a bit basic.

I think I'm leaning towards a Model Y Premium AWD, although annoyingly it does tip over the new £50k luxury car tax band.

I've got an old one.

Out of the current line up the Premium AWD is the best value IMO at the moment, it has the new bigger/better battery but the premium RWD doesn't. However, if the new bigger battery makes it into the Premium RWD model then that would be the best value.

I wouldn't get the standard or whatever they are calling it now.

Just looked at the Tesla site for the first time in ages, the AWD is cheaper on PCP than the RWD so that makes it a bit of a no brainer doesn't it?

Whilst a slightly different more boring prospect a Polestar can hook up the supercharger network through Polestar Charge and benefit from cheaper charging. Supercharging was the biggest boon for Tesla when I was looking and after trying to find a 2023 Model 3, formally rejecting one and then giving up looking after so many were damaged I ended up just getting P2. I haven't extensively used fast charging as I have a charger at home/work but I was pleased when I was notified the Polestar Charge card works on Superchargers and can benefit from a cheap rate when subscribed like the Tesla service.

I have a Highland AWD.

Personally, I love it. I’d say I’d be happy with this car for years to come but I think I’d like to go for a used performance model a few years down the line. But that’s just because I want the silly straight line speed for the odd giggle. The AWD is faster than it feels on paper. If they ever bring the performance software update to the UK I’d be tempted to try that

They’ve changed the trims since I’ve got mine but I’d just make sure whatever you get has the premium audio. It’s marvellous and 90% of the reason I went for the AWD over the RWD

agree with the premium audio

i have the acceleration boost on my non-highland LR AWD...it's pointless performance and i have my acceleration set to chill mode 99% of the time
the reason i would opt for the highland model 3 performance, is purely for the adaptive suspension which the rest of the lineup do not have (and to a lesser extent the visual upgrades)

Yeah it probably would be a waste of money because the AWD acceleration is already enough to get me in trouble so the boost/performance model would have me fighting for my license lol

Yep, that's the case at the moment. Although the AWD will have to pay the luxury car tax, but it's still worth it.

it's still at the non-tesla rate though, so a good 10-15p/kwh dearer than a tesla

I was aware of this, and I do like the Polestar 2 and 4, but I find myself still learning towards the Tesla.

Glad to hear you're happy with it. I have to say I do find it very tempting. I think they look great on the road too.

I have tried the premium audio in the Model 3 AWD and it is one of the best systems I've ever heard, and I've tried most of the high end ones. That's really what's pushing me towards the Y AWD, it's not much more than a Model 3 AWD, but it's a more substantial car.

In an ideal world I'd probably get a red Y Performance with the white interior, but in honesty I'm not too bothered about the power, the AWD will be fine.

yeah that was my toss up too, when i was looking at buying an EV
in the end, the model 3 won for me vs the P2 (both 2022 reg), mainly because:

1) supercharger network at cost price
2) the 2022 non-refresh P2 is a less efficient car than the 2022 model 3 - though this no longer applies if you're looking at new cars

PS2 is way prettier, but m3 is slightly statistically better in most terms.

I chose the looks - couldn’t get over the weirdly exposed look of the front of the m3.

Also coming from a motorbike background, I couldn’t resist the crack of ohlins / brembo.

What rate is that? The cheapest near me is 30p at non peak rates and I assumed with the polestar charge sub it would make this cheaper again unless my assumptions are incorrect. I likely am considering I’ve not used the service.

I nearly ended up with a 6 month old Highland Performance Model 3 straight from Tesla but this ended up being damaged too. I do still lust after one and think they’re a nice looking bus. I just can’t detach from how politicised they are to a large swathe of people.

EDIT - just checked my closest between the Polestar Charge App and Tesla App and it’s 1p different off peak and 3p on peak which seems pretty reasonable and without a subscription that takes a further 30% off. The next closest is the same off peak price but 3p on peak.

Tesla charges 41p peak and 22p off peak for Tesla cars

Here's what is showing on my app
