At work so not much time to surf all the sites i want to, but have i read it right, the eve update wipes out the boot.ini from root of C and doesnt put it back?

I guess copying it and then putting it back after the patch is done before rebooting would solve it?

or have i got it all wrong?

Colin

It does it on XP systems where Eve is installed on the C drive.

Vista is unaffected.

If you installed Eve on a drive other than C then you're OK.

It only happens on the upgrade version of the client which was pulled down around 4AM so it was only up for about six hours.

A rogue \ appeared in a delete command - Instead of "delete boot.ini" the command was "delete \boot.ini" as part of the patch

Cheers - :)

sorry for being paroniod, but rebuilding my home pc is not a thing i wish to do just yet lol.

I did the upgrade well before 4.00am (infact it was about 11.30 pm)

Came home from work today, turned the pc on and sat down to check mails and stuff, had a chat with a few mates, all none the wiser about this..

Read the the Eve forum for any news about bugs and stuff before I went on and I saw this in big red letters.. Hmm
Well mine switched on ok just now, but I'll check anyway...

Nope, no sign of the Boot.ini file in C:
Went in through control panel > system > advanced > start up and errrghh error, can't find boot.ini (so it wasn't me just being blind. :D)
Anyway, created a new one all fine and dandy but how come mine switched on fine about an hour ago when I got in???
Some peeps in the eve forum are saying that XP Pro serv pk 2 is Immune, perhaps this is what they mean.. although they discounted it when they also noted the file had gone..

How the hell can this thing boot up with out it??

hahahhaha :)

Reminds me of a bug in an old version of Halflife where uninstalling the game (or was it Sierra Utilities?) nuked the whole of Program Files :)
