does anyone know when the directx 9 is going to be implemented? It looks so much better than the current modified directx7 engine. Also what about the directx10 they have been talking about?

Not sure what the current engine is but the graphics update I believe is scheduled for the very end of this year. Knowing CCP you can probably add 3 months onto that date at least ;)

There will be both DX9 and DX10 versions of the new engine.

There is a smaller DX9 update coming soon™, as they say, with Revelations 1.5 and the new DX10 client is coming some time in 2008 with Revelations 2.0

Too long :(

My bad, I got mixed up as I was just reading the update notes for 2 on the test server and got confused, all that info went to my head I think :p

What I meant was 1.5 = 2 and 2 = 3 hehe

Though the improved graphics will come in at like 2.5 or something not 2.0 itself, with the DX10 Vista client being 3. Unless they totally go off track, which they probably will!

On a separate note, it seems all the allegations against CCP are false. Some people are kinda sad!

Is part of the intention with the graphics engine thingymebob to move a lot of the computing strain over to the graphics card ? (if that makes sense !)

Eve seems to be very CPU intensive at the moment, 98% pretty much constantly with one client open !

what CPU?
btw, why are you not folding?

hmm
yeah slow CPU by modern standards I'd say
should be ok tho, it does get a bit resorce hungry as you're prolly running it in software rendering

I can run two clients on it but tend not to do missions with them both open as it slows down quite a bit on them.

You didnt tell me what folding was either ! I am intrigued :D

They have said that although the new engine will be a lot more powerful and look nicer, but it will also be faster. Idea behind the new client is indeed to make better use of todays technology. As you have found the existing client does most things in software that could easily be done even with a basic graphics card these days. The new client will also improve the way it works under the skin, to make the game generally perform better and be easier to maintain and expand.

That ship comparrison movie didn't have any decent ships in, a cruiser, an indy , and a frig. Where's the new megathron, or even a capital ship :O

Now those I *** like to see!

The shaders on the ships certinaly look much better and they just look overall more detailed. However I'm concerned about the rest of the games graphics. What about the static backgrounds? Why cant they add in true nebulas that you can fly through and proper gas clouds. What I currently hate aobut eve is that you don't really feel you've moved due to everything being static. If the warp effect was turned off, it really would feel like you were stationary if there were no planets or stations to wizz by.
