Take your time with it and follow the in-game tutorial first, as a newbie I would have a good go at everything the tutorial offers. Don't rush into bigger ships, the bigger the ship, the more ISK it costs and if it is destroyed it will be hard to replace. Learn to pilot the smaller ships first and work your way up.
Get to know your home station and system in High sec. Unfortunately, I do not know of any good material to watch, but an the in-game corp / clan of Eve Uni are pretty good at helping noobs from the start. There are other clans / corps that help newbies, but I've heard good things about Eve Uni.
Also,
DO NOT TRUST ANYONE with your stuff! If you go to low-sec or 0.0 (lawless space), be prepared to lose your ship! I haven't been very active in the game in the last 6 months due to RL stuff.
A few points to remember :
- Don't shoot anyone in High-sec. You will get destroyed by Concord, these are the NPC Police that protect High sec space.
- If an contract / purchase looks to good to be true, its a scam. Jita, the main trading hub within Eve, is scam central, Local chat is full of them.
- If you use Plex to fund your account, do not move these through high-sec!
- You are never 100% safe in high-sec!
- 0.0 space is great fun, dont be scared to visit, but be prepared to die as soon as your enter it.
- Be prepared to lose your ship and pod!
