I really do like the look of this game. Basically, do you fly your ship around talking to other people in ships, as well as trading, fighting etc?

Obviously upgrading to Battlecruisers and the like aswell. :p

Answers would be much appreciated as im tempted to have a pop at it

The trial ccosts nowt anyway...

uhhhm its great, takes a while to get into at first though but if you stick with it its the dogs.

The first month or so can be rough, try to get into a good Corp that will help equip you out. Prolly a good idea to do bit of a read up on the offical forums too, lots of great info there for the beginner.
Noob chat is your friend :)

Its a steeeeep learning curve, im still finding loads of new stuff out and I played for 6 months already eheh.

Make lots and lots of friends the more people you know the better.
Dont get podded by gate campers, its embarrasing. :p

There is a universe made up of hundreds of solar sytems... in fact hundreds doesn't sound right, more like SQUILLIONS!

Some of these systems are friendly, some are very dangerous (as you get outside of the policed areas).

Each system has a local chat channel, a channel for the current constellation, a number of planets, moons and asteroid belts to visit. Most friendly systems have stations to dock in, with differing services. Most systems have pirates in asteroid belts for hunting, getting more difficult (and requiring bigger and better ships/skills) as you head into dangerous space.

Some systems have "complexes" which are the games form of dungeon.

You can take several routes:

Miner - earn cash by mining asteroids, lower security systems yield better rewards, but you'll need to be able to protect yourself. High level mining craft rake ore in at a phenominal rate.

Rat-catcher - Hunting NPC pirates for bounty (normally in asteroid belts, again the rewards rise as you head out of civil space).

Pirate - Self explanatory? Pray on less-prepared folk in unpoliced space (plenty of em out there, trying to make more money). Watch out for the seasoned vets and alliances though.

Trader - I played this way for a long time, knocking off convoys as they left stations and selling the loot. Or find a commodity that buys low and sells high elsewhere. Very time consuming.

The game gives a huge amount of scope, and the trial is well worth the time. Go nuts mining until you can afford your first fighting frigate. Kit it with some race specific weapons for the best effect and go to a 0.8 or 0.7 sec system. Blast them rats to kingdom come!

What he said tbh ^ This game's major selling point is it's piracy. Some dislike, some like. Some even get a hard on from killing unsuspecting players.

And on that note, if it happens to you, don't get 'upset' by it.. it's part of the game. :)

I disagree :)

I enjoy WoW pvp immensely because I can give it my all, using my best equipment, and not worry.

In EVE I simply cant afford to re-buy that battleship when it goes boom. It would take weeks of solid mining to get it back. And not to mention using rare equipment!

Its old-skool pvp, sure. But I've never liked that kind of risk in a game.

Personal preference of course, some people love that thrill!

but thats the point! its not WORTH anything, personaly you face little or no risk in PVP with WOW.
so what if you lose? whereas in EVE your losses are very real, you spent TIME getting those modules, training those skills (if your clones not up to date!) etc.
makes it worth somthing! the newer players have less to lose, whereas the older ones have more experiance and can (sometimes) use better equipment.
its all bout having the bones to follow it all the way though.
I'm not talking about those fools who sit at 150km from a gate and pop anyone who passes, I'm talking about people who realy go out looking for fights.

The ability to lose everything also helps the in game economy. Some would argue prices are way over the top anyway, but if you were guaranteed to never lose it, the game would come to a standstill as far as industry is concerened, and prices would rocket to untold highs because you would only have to pay once.

high profits all the way up the chain!

lies! I could build t2 frigs at a cost that would make them insurable for a profit! :p

If I could ever have gotten a BP :(

All the materials were readily available at low price.

Its just the 400,000,000,000,0000,0000000,00000000 isk mark up due to the BP rarity :/

Not only that, but almost every aspect of EVE's gameplay relies on the riskiness of PvP. If death wasn't expensive:

  • Alliance warfare probably wouldn't exist. If it did, it would be completely trivial and meaningless.
  • As Dj_Jestar said, the economy would be completely different (so different I don't even know what state it would be in).

Essentially, EVE would just turn into another WoW :)
