Not Pc related but this is BS

The mode offers an aim assist for hitting those pesky moving targets. But when we say it's meant for newcomers, we aren't kidding

Gone of the days of difficulty from major commercial game developers?

Plus, casual multiplayer channels will be offered to let newbies take on each other. These will keep out experienced players, letting newcomers test their skills without worry of getting instantly chainsawed in the back after spawning.

I was a newcomer once and I want it to be difficult, I can understand maybe if the game is for little kids like " my little pony " but this is GEARS OF WAR. Note the WAR part, what's next gamepad and keyboard assist?, don't actually have to do anything the ai does it for you . Take for example Morrowind then look what happened to the UI in oblivion then go to skyrim, it seems major developers think we are thick and just can't handle any form of difficulty

Nothing wrong with this at all. Multiplayer shooters are very intimidating to newer players and the learning curve is traditionally incredibly steep. Anything that can help really new players who want to join in the multiplayer should be embraced, not discouraged.

If you want it to be difficult, selected normal ranked, and get your ass handed to you, just like the good ol' days.

But gears of war or any form of violent action shouldn't have an easy VERY easy mode, if you want easy go play a game on the wii or something :p. But when will it end?, aim assist, no enemies, enemies that don't shoot at you?

As long as it's an addition, rather than a replacement, who cares? Rez has a 'Journey' mode, which allows you to play through the levels without even pressing a single button. Do you see that as an issue?

I do :)

Remember I go way back to the amstrad days, when it was extremely difficult just to get past the first level on occasion but it kept me hooked!.

Intentional fresh account for newb zone trolling for lols? :D

Quake Live hooooooo!

But on topic, doesn't bother me as long as they aren't replacing something to put this in. If people need a training bra for a while until they feel more comfortable to enter ranked matches then I don't see a problem with it.

This tbh. Why is it bad to offer a lower step into multiplayer games for people that aren't "hardcore" gamers?

SC2 offers players a number of unranked "learner" games for new players. It would be impenetrable and offputting for many players if they were just dropped in at the deep end.

It's not stopping any player that just wants to jump in. So I don't see what the issue is.

Ok, I respect that, but things are different now. We've got to make a conscious effort to make games an inclusive experience. The audience these days is much broader, and you can't expect most players to just hurl themselves against a brick wall in order to succeed. The reality is if you take that approach they will just move onto another game.

Now for a niche title, this is fair enough. For something that is going to ship in the millions like gears, it's unthinkable. Another good example is Bayonetta - the hardest difficulty for this game is *hard*, like old school Japanese hard. But it also has a 1 button mode for players that want to enjoy the experience but don't have many hours to get good at it. No-one gets hurt, everyone wins!

I think this is a good thing honestly.

There's a huge difference between dumbing down a game for everyone, or giving the option to dumb it down. Plus the more people who get into 'hardcore' games (I HATE that title) means more opportunity for the much smaller niche of players who want games that are much more difficult to grow.

The article even says that players who have even played the previous games won't even be allowed to play the casual mode. This is absolutely nothing bad, and potentially everything good.

I could only see this being an issue if "normal" was replaced by this. But it isn't so no issue there. Come on Neil, surely you can come up with better examples of game devs assuming we are all total retards than this (there are plenty).

I have many times in the past, but I still don't agree with this. If a game is too difficult try and try again

A lot of us grew up with this, and are very used to it. But is it the only way? As long as you get some kind of reward for completing it 'properly', let people do what they want :P

Ah but you fail to grasp that there ARE people out there with the IQ of a potato (BB contestants, IE users :p) and we, as gamers, NEED gaming to become more mainstream so retards like Co-op Norway, Fox News and most of Australia don't blame video games for Hitler and ban them all.

giving more options to the user is never a bad thing, to argue otherwise is counter productive, it even states in that article this is for complete gears newbies, so far as to lock off the feature for returning players.

whats the problem?

Although I will say who the hell picks up a series at the end? I don't know anybody who read Return of the King before the other two or watched Return of the Jedi before the other two, that is just stupid. Go back and play through from the beginning n00b :p

What a stupid post.

How does it affect you? It's not like they're getting rid of the harder modes, they're just letting rubbish players/newcomers have an option.
