Finally joined the ranks after lurking for a few years. System is in the specs below and finally looking for a new graphics card. The rest of the system still flies, not bad for nearly 5 years old
Deciding between a AMD 290 and Nvidia 780.
AMD pros:
Price
Performance
Mantle
Potential to flash to 290X depending on manufacturer/PCB
Potential free BF4 and silver code
AMD cons:
Heat
Noise
Power
Reference cooler only
Drivers could be better
Nvidia pros:
Performance (when OC'd)
Better at OCing depending on card/cooler
More features such as Shadowplay and "Experience"
Cooler
Quieter
Customer coolers
Decent free games
Nvidia cons:
Price
Stock clocks mean it doesn't beat 290
Personally I'm swaying towards the EVGA 780 FTW edition with ACX. Saw it at £395 recently. Can't quite justify the extra £30ish for Classified.
If the 290 had a custom cooler on it from launch and the prices were roughly the same as they are now, I think I'd be sold
