Recently I looked on Event Viewer on my computer and found that since at least February every time my computer has been on, there are errors shown every few seconds for "Event 14, nvlddmkm". Below is the general description:

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video7
1593(237c) 00000000 00000000

Anyone know what this error is all about?

I haven't been having any noticeable issues with my system except for 2 BSoDs on 04/04/2014 and 10/04/2014 (yesterday) which I still do not know the reasons for (the BCCode was 1e, suggesting memory issues but I ran a memory diagnostic which found no issues) however possibly the error mentioned above could have something to do with it.

I have the latest non-beta drivers installed on my system for my 2 780s, and my system specs in full are in my signature (click the link).

Thanks for any help in advance :)

Remnants of an old driver I would suspect. Try a complete uninstall with DDU and install drivers again if it is annoying.

Ok cheers, I don't think it's causing any issues, all my games/benchmarks seem to be running fine and I doubt that the odd recent BSoDs are related to this. But the existence of these errors in the event logs do slightly irritate me - so I'll probably do a fresh install of drivers, might even be worth updating to the latest betas but I keep procrastinating.

Anyway, cheers :)

Right, so I did a complete uninstall with DDU and installed the latest WHQL drivers again however I am still getting this error every second that my computer is turned on. Also, the 3 recent BSODs I've had over the past 3 weeks may be linked to the Nvidia drivers after all (when I ran Nirsoft Blue Screen Viewer it seemed to suggest that) so it is in my interests to get this issue solved once and for all in case these event log errors are related to the crashes.

Any advice/suggestions?

Thanks

See this thread for more info on my BSODs.

Nothing worse than having those damned BSODs and I would want it sorted. I would drop everything back to stock clocks and start doing some testing.

  • Run both cards and loop Heaven for a few hours and see if you are still getting the event viewer issues
  • take one card out and loop Heaven - swap cards and loop Heaven. See if the errors are there for one card
  • Run memtest86+ as this has been linked with nvlddmkm error
  • Try a different WHQL driver and see if you are still getting the issue
  • Reinstall Windows if nothing else works. Drastic measure but a potential confliction in there

Try the TDR recovery method used here.

Goto registry editor (start -> run -> regedit)
Navigate yourself to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlGraphicsDrivers (make sure GraphicsDrivers is highlighted).
Right click -> New -> DWORD (32-bit) value -> Name it: TdrDelay -> double click it -> Set it to A (hexadecimal) or 10 (decimal).

If that doesn't work, try disabling it, by adding the following DWORD: TdrLevel and setting the value to 0, then rebooting.

Those will make sure everything is tested properly at least and I hope you find the issue. A possibility of a faulty card/ram/psu, so a good test is needed.

Are you overclocking the CPU by increasing the blk? If so could be why.

It might be possible to solve it by increasing System Agent/VCSSA/IMC voltage 1-2 notches but double check that is still within safe limits for your CPU.

In rare cases people have seen it due to a gpu thats not fully stable on default core clock so might be worth dropping them 100mhz and see if it goes away.

Running Memtest86+ now, goodness me it's going to take quite some time to complete all the passes - only 2 passes done in just over 3 hours

No errors detected thus far however, so I don't think I have any memory issues. Still not convinced whether the event viewer nvlddmkm errors are linked to the recent BSODs though, pretty sure it has something to do with the system going from high load to low when exiting a game (but the BSODs have only occurred select times during this process).

Just thought I'd update this thread to help anyone lurking the internet if they are having similar problems.

- Doing a couple of fresh driver installs got rid of the "event 14" errors, currently on the newest WHQLs and I haven't had these errors appear in the event viewer since the fresh install. So if anyone has a similar problem, use DDU for re-installing your drivers or just wait for the new ones from Nvidia and the errors should go away.

- As for the BSODs I was getting, it turns out that they only happened after exiting a game in which I'd been using the RivaTuner Stats Server overlay (but not every time), so I simply uninstalled RTSS and I haven't had any BSODs since

:)

Weird one. I was getting BSODs on my Windows 7 install when I was monitoring temps with HWmonitor and I couldn't work it out. It was only after a few times of not running it and running it did it click that the program to make sure everything was ok, was in fact causing me the issue in the first place :D

Yeah, unfortunately I have no means of monitoring temps and usage in games now but I don't trust RTSS since these problems so I won't be re-installing it anytime soon. In a way it's been a "blessing" (I solved the issues a few months ago now by the way) as instead of looking at temperatures, GPU usage and VRAM usage in games I actually play the damn games without these distractions now :D

I never bother to overclock when gaming (I should, as I get a near 50% boost when running a 24/7 overclock in Tomb Raider at 4K for example) and I never have anything monitoring. It is just nice to play without watching how many frames/what are the temps/what VRAM/etc.
