Hi,
My computer running Vista SP2 has been getting slower and slower to startup and shutdown until it, usually at the second black screen on startup and at the "Shutting Down" window. Recently it has periodically started to totally hang at one of these screens. Major problem starting today took me to Safe Mode then System Restore from two days ago. While shutting down to restore the system it hung again the "Shutting Down" screen. After waiting about half an hour I switched it off. Major problems then, no safe mode, booted from the Vista CD and it hung just after the "Starting Windows" screen and I switched off after about twenty minutes. I tried a straight boot later on and by some miracle it booted straight into Windows without much delay and confirmed that system restore had been successful.
I know the slow startup, shutdown and periodic hanging has not been resolved as the problem was there much more than two days ago. All of my drivers are up to date and there are only three items in my startup, Windows sidebar, system tray and MSE. Some time ago I also edited the killwaitingtimeout or whatever from 20,000 to 5,000. I run Ccleaner regularily on both temp file cleaner and also the registry cleaner.
I have checked event Viewer and have the following errors on my current startup.
CAP12 11, 5 times.
WMI 10
volmgr 46, twice.
Can any of these errors be the culprits and if so how do I fix them? I have tried Googling the errors, but most of the posts are either very old or not relevant.
Any help would be appreciated.
Axel
