Ever feel like just getting away?

Just having a bit of a think.

It's Easter holidays from Uni now and I'm really getting sick of my usual weekly routine. Granted, I have a lot of time off Uni (my degree isn't that demanding), but I'm very tired of basically doing nothing except music in my spare time. (I love it, but it's all I do).

Does anyone ever just want to jump on a train (or plane, if that's practical for you) and set off somewhere? I love travelling, and at the moment I'm really liking the idea of jumping on a train by myself and going to, I dunno, Edinburgh for a few days, get a B&B somewhere and just have a change of scenery. I've never done anything like this though so it's a bit daunting.

Has anyone else done something similar or feel like doing this?

Why don't you get some friends together and go somewhere for a weekend? Camping is fun with a lot of beer :D

All the time,

I'll usually arrange to meet some mates whilst I'm there, people who live reasonably close by. I get bored travelling on my own and I'm now old and miserable enough that I don't want to make the effort to befriend new people.

All the time,

I get a version of Wanderlust that I call Mountainlust and the longer I am away from hilly, remote and mountainous terrain the worse the "itch" gets.

It can be made to go away for short periods by going out in the general countryside but only a full on hike up a mountain will stop it for any reasonable length of time.

Right now it is a fairly intense itch but a trip up Trfan and the Glyders will more than sort it out. Roll on Easter!

It may not be as much fun yourself but the huge plus point is you can go where you want when you want without having to debate it amoung people.

I had the exact same problem although mine was due to health issues and being signed off work for 3 months.

I went down to Going Places one afternoon and walked out with a 2 week holiday on my own in the Dominican Republic. Went home, packed and was away 36 hours later.

Was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Skegness calls! :D

Seriously, Edinburgh is a great idea. Took the missus there last year and we had a blast. Bloody amazing place; great value, too. The Scots are very hospitable and friendly, with a great sense of humour.

Wouldn't mind taking the missus for another break in the near future. I've got my eyes on Kiel.

i think im getting/got to that stage :D

Wait until you're into the monotonous life of full time work. Such thoughts will enter your head every hour.

I was actually thinking about this a couple of days ago.

It'd be wonderful just to hop into the car, drive to yorkshire and stay in a B&B for a couple of days and just go walking into the countryside.

sounds like a starting plotline to a horror film, dont want to scare you too much lol :p

Yorkshire is awesome... I'm from there so I'm biased but it just is.
Yes I feel like this all the time, I'm at uni doing a PGCE - literally the hardest year of my life, I currently have no life, I'm either in lectures, writing a pointless essay or on placement (which admittedly is totally wicked) but theres no time for anything else which is exhausting. I'm off now for 3 weeks - first holiday since sept as xmas hols were spent writing planning for school and essays... so far I have cleaned my house and spent a day laid on the sofa... although I did hurt my knee yesterday so the latter was not really by choice. Anyway, back to the point... only problem with jumping on a plane/train is a complete lack of money... so I suggest visting mates.. muchly cheaper..

Yes, i do. Especially recently. I've got plenty of friends dotted round the country who i could go and see at a moments notice.

I live just outside Skipton. Couldn't be in a better place in England other than maybe Cumbria or deep West Country. Evey day off for me feels like a holiday.

Always a good call. I am sure we will end up doing this over Easter and i am rather looking forward to it.

Last year we would go camping and surfing for like 2 days and just pack a few cars up with beer.

Would go just down the coast to this remote spot and party it up, was always an amazing laugh and got us away from the hastles of life..

No :)
I'm the type of person who likes to meticulously plan a holiday, in fact I actually enjoy all the hunting around, finding the best deals, best dates etc.

I'm also exceedingly poor at finding my way around unfamiliar places so the idea of being alone in a strange place is quite worrying for me.
