Everquest 1 or Everquest 2? (Return to which?)

With the dual release of Seeds of Destruction(EQI) and The Shadow Odyssey(EQII), I have decided to quit World of Warcraft for the forseeable future and pick one of my two old favourites to return to.

I'm having a hard time deciding which to return to, though. If EQI had released its new server now, I probably would be overly tempted to jump straight back into that, but the latest news seems to suggest the new server is around 2-3 months away from release :<

Arrrgh. Either way, whatever I pick, I would be replaying from scratch, with a new account (Do not want to pay for activating old account AND the expansion so I will make a new account over steam).

Anyone play EQ1 or EQ2 here? Anyone play both? Your input would be much appreciated!

Laters.

EQ1 is too old to play now in my opinion, just doesn't feel right. So yea, go for EQ2. I'd use your old account though if it were me. Play on the Nagafen server :)

I've recently jumped back to EQ1 after a very long break and I'm struggling to get back into it as so much seems to have changed. If you're starting from scratch then both should be quite a bit easier than you remember. EQ2 has a refer a friend bonus xp scheme and they already shortened the xp to level. EQ1 now has mercenaries so you can run around with a pretty decent npc healer.

Im not rly interested in continuing the character i have on my EQ2 account so I might aswell save the extra money and just open a new account :P

If it's an old EQ2 account you might have some nice veteran rewards available to claim. From memorytwo useful rewards included an upgraded sales crate for your house that had a lower comission charge, and a shrink item that turned you into a Billy doll (could turn off illusions in options to remain as character).

Also during the Legacy event, or it might of been another event, you got given all expansions for free.

EQ2 hands down. it has improved a great deal since its launch. Download the trial for it, takes long but you get full game with it, if you like it just create an account and away you go, no extra download needed after that.

Yup i do play but am off for exams these days. Runnyeye server--Character Slahuddin level 80 guard--(love it to bits :)

No just 5 and 3 adventure packs (think of adventure packs as like Knights of The Nine for oblivion)

And EQ1 has 15 Expansions :o

Yoshua doesn't ring a bell but im sure someone on that server would know. Go for shadow expansion, if you are one of those who liked the original eq2 content then you will like this expansion. Best expansion yet in my opinion.

Also, if im not mistaken, not long ago i was just goofing around and downloaded the full trial to play for 14 days, then i decided to resubscribe and carry on with my toons but when i did, i did not had to download TSO expansion. It was all there.

TSO is an awful expansion, all it's done is bring the obvious grind back into eq2, which I guess some people like.

Don't particularly understand what you mean by grind, but i played the game from its early days and since the arrival of the first expansion (DoF) it went from bad to worse when RoK came out. TSO has been a breath of fresh air in many respects. I guess the experience varies from individual to individual.

I had this installed and just patched to latest versions of EQ I but 14.50€ per month = NO!

The most expensive of all MMOS for what is a 8 year old game.... !

It's actually 10 years old :p

I'm not defending the price, but you do have to take into account the amount of content available in EQ1. It easily dwarfs every single MMO out there in terms of features and land mass. It is mind bogglingly huge. Modern day MMO = the size of Britain. EQ1 = the size of China.

As well as the physical size difference, factor in the quests, item database, mobs, raid targets, tradeskill recipies, audio, etc etc.

Of course, you won't see all of it because people will gravitate to areas where everyone else is playing and the older content won't be touched. But all that data has to sit on the servers and be available to everyone should they choose to use it, and that costs money.

Hey well I am back in EQ2 and enjoying it thoroughly. I only left last time because I couldn't afford it haha. The price is only 9.49 a month, which is something like 50p more than WoW costs; but EQ2 has so much more content than World of Warcraft to be fairly honest.

I just bought the Shadow Odyssey expansion pack, too.

Give Yoshua a /tell on Runnyeye if you're around ;) 58 Warden :P
