Just interested in knowing what spec of system people have that can run Everquest 2 max quaility, and exceed at least 30FPS playable framerate in all zones for 20"+ monitors. And if that's just for solo, sinlge group, or full raid.

Looking to replace my current system, but don't want to splash out lots of cash.

Maybe a quad core would do it? I know that even on my rig in sig, well apart from a 3.4Ghz E6600 it ran sloppy on max, was like a slide show, I think its very CPU dependant on the shaders.

EQ2 is very CPU dependant and until the next update multicore has no effect. You'll struggle to run it on max settings and maintain high FPS on any current system as far as I know as it was built at a time when it was expected that CPU's were going to get faster and faster, they didn't and went down the multicore route instead. SoE are starting to add multicore support now but until it all pans out I wouldn't hold your breath.

The great thing about EQ2 is that there are so many settings you have control of.
So you can tweak it all you want, but for raiding (which i never did) i would probably just set the default to a couple of setting above the medium.

Yeh, it has an insane amount of options, there are even more you can tweak with the ini file too.

I tried it again recently purely because I'd upgraded my cpu and card. Maxed all of the options on an E8400, ATI 4870 and 4GB on Vista 64 and it was smooth enough for general play, but I reckon it would still slow down with a lot of players on screen.

The lighting and shadows look well, but it looks a bit rough cos you can't enable AA from in game, and I can't seem to force it from the CCC.

Edit - this was 1680 x 1050, 22 inch monitor

Good to know. Using the same resolution but on a 20" screen.

Was using ProfitUI, and never went above Performance option (using the PorfitUI icons). Sometimes needed to drop it down to Raid setting and still get poor FPS.

Anyway my latest free subs have ended now, so will bide my time.
