EverQuest The Anniversary Edition

I played EQ for 5 years. Great game in its time but things have moved on now. The very idea of playing a game which takes days rather than hours to level up is abhorrent to me now.

Hummm - maybe interesting.
The original EQ is one of the few MMORPG's I didn't play, mainly because I was still heavily into UO at the time of its release.
Are you saying that it actually takes some time to level up in EQ?
That it isn't possible to get a character to maximum level over a couple of weeks?

Then I might well take a look at that.
UO was excellent from that point of view - took me a year to gain Grandmaster Blacksmith the first time and boy was that something to show off about afterwards.
None of this "Maximum skills/level" after a few weeks or a month at most rubbish.

Unless they changed it since I quit (in 2005) then yes it takes a long time to level up in EQ. Also bear in mind that its not (or wasn't) a solo-game. You needed to group in order to kill stuff. If you wanted to solo 1-65 (the cap is 70? or 75 now?) then your best bet would be a necromancer or a druid.

Are there people still playing this? Surely the servers would be empty nowadays?
I'd be up for a go on it though but it's at least a week before I can afford it.

hehe I tried EQ a few years back. Didn't get far though -walked for bloody ages, took shelter in a house and a lion walked through the wall & ate me!! Tried the same quest again and the exact same thing happened again :D

Heh yeah remember that - walls aren't safe in EQ :p One of the raid zones, Plane of Hate, if you stood against the wall at some point, then everything on the second floor aggro'd your raid -> cue wipe.

The other good one was killing Solusek Ro in the PoP Once you do that then a quest mob appears that you hail to get access to a phat lewt zone. Only problem was that the floor was bugged, so half the raid went over to hail him, fell through the floor and into some lava below. Oh how we laughed... not.

In many ways, EQ was just a buggy PoS, but I did have a lot of fun with it until the end.

Wow $20 for all that content. Sometimes I think it would be great to start over in EQ with a bunch of like minded people and play progressively through the content (didn't fancy the progression servers, thought it would be too much of a race) and not think about buying another game for a good few years.

I reactivated my magician last year and gave it another go, had some good fun but I found it really hard progressing in the small guild I was in because everyone was at different stages in the various expansions. Also getting groups was hard because magician is just a dps class that can be easily replaced.

Back to playing PlanetSide again now because there's less fannying about.

Its a good deal I suppose but I couldnt face going back to that game :p

I made the mistake of buying a month subscription when the last expansion pack game out, after not playing it for 2 years. I logged in after installing everything again, then logged out about 5mins later in disgust at the graphics. I dont know what I was expecting to find, I knew it was past its sell by date :)

I think at the moment I'm just waiting for PotBS and Age of Conan to come out. I've tried LoTRO and Vanguard recently and they are pretty much the same old recycled ****.
