Every file download get a "contains virus" message

I have a Win7 X64 machine running IE10 , every time I download a file it says it contains a virus and is deleted

I have tried disabling Malwarebytes and that makes no difference

Tried a few things I have found on web with no joy

any ideas?

I helped out a friend with a similar problem. We couldn't download AVG to do a virus scan because he PC was infected and it kept deleting the file. To get around this we downloaded it onto another PC and transferred AVG over using a USB stick. This worked in the end after booting up in Safe Mode. Hope this helps.

What program was telling you it was a virus? Defender?

looked like it but couldn't access defender and MS website says defender not compatible win Win 7 64 bit so couldn't be

It comes with Windows

Hit start and type 'defender'. If you install MSE, it replaces it.
