I have an interesting issue since I've done this. Might warrant another thread.
Since I've installed the card I have an interesting boot problem. When I shut the computer down or do a restart it will shut down properly and then it restarts. It goes through the POST and then goes to a black screen and just sits there. That's it, done. It doesn't matter how long I wait it won't do anything.
So I have resorted to pressing F8 and choosing LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION. This is one of the weird things. After you choose the last known good configuration it goes to the next screen which lets you choose the OS you want to us. Since I only have XP installed that is my only option.
Before I had this problem I would just press enter and it would continue on to the boot.
Now when I press the enter key the page acts like a word processor and the lines move up. Like I wanted to advance to the next line. I press enter again and finally when the sentences are pushed off the screen it goes to the boot sequence.
I'm not complaining because it works, it's just that it changed and I don't know why.
So the other thing that is strange I discovered by accident. When I boot up normally and then it goes to the black screen and just hangs. I went to press the power button and by accident I pressed the media button. The the boot sequence commenced as normal.
The media button is part of a special program on Dell computers. It accesses a special hidden sector on the HDD and starts up the computer without actually starting the OS, just enough to let you use media.
Well, quite some time ago I changed out HDD before it could crash. I used a disk mirroring program and one of the things it can't do is copy hidden partitions. So I lost this partition and the button should be useless. But for whatever reason it seems now when I do a normal boot I will need to press power and then when it goes to the black screen I need to press the media button.
What the heck is going on here? Any clue?
