I haven't tried this game but I picked up Zen of Sudoku on Steam a couple of years ago.

Whilst it's not flashy, it is very good for just plain Sudoku. It can generate unlimited puzzles of any difficulty you choose and the best feature is you can ask it to analyse the currrent board if you get stuck.

Unlike other progams, it doesn't just fill in the next square for you (unless you ask it to), it hints at how you can proceed and can explain the technique that can be used to do so. I found this a great way of learning some of the more advanced techniques like x-wing, etc.
 
Bump to say this is an awesome game! Starts off fairly simple, but some of the levels have really made me think for a while, staring at the squares until it comes to me. Heck, I'd probably pay full price for this :D
