Hi there,

I own a Nikon D7000, but the only have one lens (the tokina 11mm -16mm) great for taking picture of wide areas of course, but I'm looking for something that I can walk around with and just take normal pictures if you know what I mean.

Was just wondering what lenses people would recommend? I understand that on a full frame camera you would get a 35mm lens ? is this correct ? so for a D7000 is that around 24mm ?

budget around £200 - £300 can be increased

Thanks in advance

35 is wide on a full frame camera, but roughly in the middle on crop.

Generally 50mm in considered the middle ground on FF.

I have both the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and the Nikon 35mm f1.8, both of which would tick the boxes for you. The Nikon prime does take better pictures, especially when shooting wide open, but the Tamron is more versatile.

I will say unless all you do is shoot bands in dingy pubs you don't need both in your bag.

What about something like a Nikon 18-200mm?

it's a good everyday lens and with the range, it's a good walk about lens in a pretty small size

Or if budget matters a lot, I've got a Sigma 28-300mm F3.5 and it's a cracking walkabout lens, it doesn't have the bells and whistles that the equivalent Nikon does, but it takes some pretty good shots.

Used Nikon 18-105mm VR?

Even though its a 'kit lens' don't let that put you off. I think its a superb bit of kit that very usable at all lengths and apertures.

18-105mm VR, is a very sharp lens and very versatile. My GF uses that on a D7k and it rarely comes off, I use a 16-85 VRII for such uses. Sharp enough for professional large canvas prints, I love the 16mm end but if it wasn't for that I would probably get by with a 18-105, although the build quality of the 16-85 is far superior.

Both of these have better image quality than the Nikon 24mm f/2.8 prime and are vastly more useful as an everyday lens.

If you want a faster aperture but less versatility then a second hand sigma/tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 is a goo choice, but make sure you try before you buy.

Honeslty thought it would be more clear cut than this, but with so many different lenses being mentioned, I'm still none the wiser lol

Gonna look into all the lenses and see what happens
