Just sold a perfectly good working HD6950 graphics card and a week later i get this message ...

"hi,

After all weekend of testing the hd6950,

I have installed all the software and saphire trixx

this will not run games like battlefield 3,
rage or even skyrim as it crashes after 5 - 10 mins. i have been intouch with saphire and they say if it crashes at 72 oC then it has been overclocked for a long period of time and can not be recovered,

I am not happy with this as i paid a lot of money and could have bought a brand new one for a little more.

I have more investigation to do but wanted to let you know this"

Here we go again. Look's like the fella has killed my old card which i never had any bother with. He'll file a dispute ,get his money back and i'll get a dud card returned.

That's it. Me and eBay are finished.

Refuse to refund, I sold a psp that was working perfectly.. He came back about a Fortnight later saying that the stick wasn't working and he wanted a refund. I got hassled by eBay loads to refund him but this guy had blatantly broke it himself.

I responded to all his emails explaining the situation and responded to eBay with the same info and in the end I kept the money and eBay refunded the guy.

Should probably stop selling on ebay. There's a members market on here full of decent people who (generally) wont spastically break things.

just because it was running fine in your system is irrelevant. graphics cards are sensitive pieces of electronic equipment.

maybe you packed it wrong

They are probably not breaking it but are just scamming by buying broken ones & working ones, then swapping , refunding then reselling.

I would just tell him straight that it was working perfectly fine up until you used it.

Don't give him anything.

I always make notes of serial numbers when I send things just in case. although nothing stopping them swapping the stickers I guess.

Maybe, check his sales history and see what else he has been buying. If hes blocked that just give us his username and we can search by using different ways. I always just google the persons username and that comes up with all sorts of information about the person then you might be lucky to get a email from searching. Put that email in search engines and you get lucky.

lol would a gpu manufacturer even say that?

UV pen and write postcode on it?

yeh but no real proof, I tend to photograph the box or something so if ebay ask I can send some evidence. even though like I say they could swap stickers or I could have taken a photo of a different box, I feel happier. so far not had any issues where people have followed through when I have explained it was working when it left and if they sent it back I would take it to work and get our chief engineer to fully test it and send them a report.

Ive sold about 30 items on ebay and only ever had one problem, it was an old iphone 3g and the person who bought it was thick, claiming it was broken when in fact all he had to do was plug it into his computer to activate it on itunes. Wouldnt listen to my emails explaining exactly what to do, so he opened a dispute. He sent the phone back and I refunded him, listed it again and it sold for £30 more so overall it was a win despite the hassle of dealing with such a moron.

I do avoid ebay when possible, ill use the MM and im hoping to use AVforums when I have something not allowed on the MM, never had a problem on the MM so far.

I sell all my old hardware on eBay and thank god so far rarely have had any issues.

Just make sure to photograph serial numbers to avoid them sending back something else.

Also pack well, and make sure you use anti static packaging.

Most importantly - 99% of the time there will be nothing wrong with your item. Either the buyers changed his mind or his system is incompatable. Weak PSU etc If you card was working before, packed well, in all likely hood will be fine on return.

I once had a guy buy a 4870x2 off me then complained it wouldnt fit inside his case. he had one of the small HP SFF pc's and the card was almost as big as the case lol.

Once this is out of the way, start putting terms and conditions in your auctions, enable the no refunds option in the auction and state that it's fully working, tested, record videos/images etc so that someone looking to scam you will think twice about trying it on.
