Everything sold out

I'd say it's Covid related to some degree. I've read there's been an increase in people wanting to get out and couple that with potential shipping issues for bikes too from suppliers and it all adds up.

I've noticed a few parts that I want aren't available either.

Been looking around to get the boy a MTB, circa 500 quid range and almost everything seems to be sold out. Are new 2021 bikes due soon or is it Covid related?

Let's break it down.

1) Are new 2021 bikes due soon

LOL WUT? It's like only 2020 Bro!!!

2) is it Covid related

There has been a massive increase in demand for bicycle devices (for genuine lockdown exercise or as an excuse to travel somewhere whilst pretending to exercise) particularly at the entry level, so doubtless anything sensibly priced will now be in short supply.

Yep. Have been looking myself, want to spend ~£700 (with some wiggle room either side) and have narrowed it down to four or five bikes but literally everywhere is sold out.

Went to Halfords on Monday to see if they had a Voodoo Bazinga in stock - they didn't. Was told that they are in stock at other stores, just not in any of the ones around here. "Simple then", I thought. So I asked them if I could buy one of them and then they could just ship it to my local store (pretty sure Halfords have their own trucks) and said it wouldn't matter if it added a day or two to when I could pick it up, but they looked at me as if I'd just drop kicked a new born into a wood chipper.

I remember a time when a shop would almost hold you prisoner whilst they rang around other stores and then asked if you could pick it up in an hour or two from the store you were currently in

Sold two bikes on FB marketplace, both went within an hour they weren’t cheap and weren’t expensive.

Demand is enormous, lots of the supply chain are closed in various different fashions.

Gyms are shut and won't be re-opening any time soon.

We have been told to avoid public transport.

People have more time and want to get fit in the middle of a pandemic.

Supply chains have been disrupted.

I sold ally weight equipment for circa £5K cash - I paid £2K for it. Demand for fitness equipment is insane right now and prices have risen as a result anything cheap is out of stock. I even sold ring fit adventure on ebay for £200 - its like £60 new and in stock now.

Then I spent circa £4K on 2 bikes and cycling equipment. So I decided to re-invest the money made into stuff I will actually use and enjoy more.

Ah well, he will just have to ride his mums bike for a bit till can find stock. :)

Mines still decent enough but hankering after an eBike.

Did have a browse of FB marketplace but it seems to be mostly trash.

Try the buy and sell section on pinkbike if looking for second hand.

Anecdotally my friend lives in Stockholm, Sweden, working from home currently, and her office chair broke, so she went to teh IKEA mega store there and guess what, all office chairs sold out, not a single one available!

Had that very experience at John Lewis and Richer Sounds. I still find that small specialist shops will go out of their way to make a sale when they have a live punter stood in their shop.

Had that in Halfords about 2 years ago, well, it was in my interest really as I was after a specific limited edition bike that was ludicrously good value for money, they only had one left in the size I wanted and had it transported from a Birmingham branch to Leeds if I recall. They asked if I wanted it building, but I said no, I didn't want to take any chances and just wanted the bike ASAP.

I think it's to do with more increased demand more than supply issues. Every courier will tell you how busier they are in comparison to other Spring time of previous years.

Supply is an issue I had to wait like 2 months for a turbo trainer.

My bike also took several weeks to arrive they didn't have any in stock.

However the wife's bike I ordered the week after mine arrived before mine as it was from the outlet section on canyon so in stock.

It's from both demand and supply. One has increased and the other has been affected. For example my bike manufacturers are from Taiwan iirc.

I still know several people who used to go to the gym who have been asking me about the equipment I sold and when I told them this is the going rate on ebay they weren't interested. 2 weeks later they came back as desperate for anything. Gyms won't re open for at least 3 months and if they do they will be at reduced capacity until there is a vaccine.

Supply is slowly being drip fed to us and a lot of places pretend they have stock when they don't.

The shop I bought my turbo trainer from said that the manufacturer delivered less than what was promised. So that's a supply issue. It also arrived later than what was promised too iirc.

Fyi

I was looking for an electric bike for a months time when I change job. Didn't want to pay now. They are like 1900.

Looked a couple of weeks ago, all fine. Few sold out. But one I wanted was still there.

Come last week 2 shops had 10+ in stock.
Come Monday, 1 shop had 2 in stock.

I rang a couple of places. No new 2021 models until November ish. There is no more stock!

So that's it. Had to buy one!
2 left now in the whole of the UK of the model I wanted.

Edit.
Gone.
All sold out for entire uk

there is plenty of stock so long as you don't need a specific model. e bikes are pretty niche and too expensive for most folk. it's the bikes under £600 which are an issue. canyon still have plenty on there site.

8 months on and its even worse, my lad has asked for a road bike for his birthday, everything half decent for 500-600 pounds is sold out
