Went to the Farne Islands yesterday armed with a 300 F2.8. There was quite a swell on so we only managed the first island (Inner Farne) but for slightly longer (3 hours), the place is stuffed with puffins and some other stuff.

They're such entertaining little critters.. I urge anyone who hasn't done, to go.. its great!

One of the nesting Shags, I love their feather detail, it really made me think about what sort of shot to take, so I settled for this.

Flight shots:

These were pretty difficult to nail, they don't half shift...

And the last 2 with a slower shutter speed (1/125 - 1/160th)

That first picture is incredible (and that's not to say the rest aren't amazing). You even used a converter and it still looks razer sharp :o

Fantastic V-Spec, keep it up.

Normally I'd be hugely impressed by those puffin pictures, especially the flying shots. But they're rather eclipsed by the shag shot! It's a *superb* photograph. Well done.

Cheers..

I'm glad people think the shag works, (excuse the pun) as its more the sort of thing I want to take from now on, I liked its peaceful eye contact, it was actually having a snooze but I kept making a gentle popping sound with my cheek, and each time I did it opened its eye for about 2 seconds.. I annoyed the Seals at Donna Nook for hours doing it :D

that looks like sinister eye contact to me. Love the very first, the shag and the slower shutter speeds, amazing sense of movement in those. I wish I had the patience/wallet to give this a go.

You know, it's just occurred to me that I've never seen photos of these things flying around before.

I think the third is the best quality, but my favourite is the first one :)

Great shots again Tim. Looks like you had good light as well. One question though, Do you work? As you seem to get about more than me!

cheers lol..

I had a few days off so I went all over the place, most of the time i'm by myself so I generally look at the weather and just go somewhere first thing, no arrangements to make just fill the car with Diesel and go.

It was a bit of a gamble as the weather was so hit and miss and a chance of landing on the island was 50/50, but I was in one of my psychopathic moods where I just have to go, 500 mile round trip wasn't putting me off!

Awesome shots man. Would you happen to have a high res one for desktop wallpaper purposes?

I would normally be happy to, but some of these will be going to RSPB images and a few other agencies in due course so I won't be able to give any decent sized freebies, these are a bit big as they are for the web.. Sorry I hate to be all protective! :)

Edit, forgot to say.. if anyone is ever worried about the AF issues which occured on the MkIII a while back, don't be, its a cracking body ;)
