Hi Everyone,

I recently bought (recently'ish) a new higher powered psu to handle a SLI setup with 2 x 980Ti's. The system runs well and power pulled from the socket peaks at 860w (full system overclocks cpu/gpu's) and average with my vsync setup at around 680w so from that atleast I know I have a suitably sized unit. Non oc'd system has no impact on noise level.

My only concern is that it seems a bit noisy and not in a fan noisy way (which would be ok/better). It sounds more like a noisy water pump or even a muffled grinding/rattling sound is probably the best way I can describe it.

I have 5 x NF-12 fans at 700rpm and a DDC pump at 2000rpm and these are silent at those levels. The only thing that would be comparable level wise would be my external HDD when powered up.

Just interested to hear your own views on this specific spec EVGA PSU and have you found similar sound issues? Thinking I probably made a mistake buying this over alternatives.

cheers
David

Here is a short clip, best heard through headphones. I think in all fairness to EVGA the unit is not that loud its just the type of sound which hopefully you can pick up through the clip. I used a phone app sound meter and its at 32db @ 1m. I move the phone mic closer to the psu after a few seconds in the vid. The video doesn't seem to pick up the sound that well but hopefully you can hear it anyway.

Ok aside from the noise issue. I now have sparks coming from the back of the power supply when turning on the power supply at the PSU switch.

I will be looking into getting this replaced as its a fair old crack when switching on and doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
