I'm having a problem where everytime I boot into Windows, the screen goes black at the desktop and the computer crashes requiring a reset.

I've tried uninstalling the graphics drivers and then the problem dissappears. I've tried installing various different driver versions but the same problem still happens.

Usually after like 5-6 reboots, the computer works fine for as long as it is on without the black screen showing.. but when I switch it on the next day, the issue returns and i am forced to keep resetting.

Current drivers 258.96

OS: Win 7 64bit
Processor: i7 930 @ 4ghz
Motherboard: X58A UD3R

OP - Is your card brand new or has this just recently started happening?

The card is brand new, only had it for one week. The problem has been there ever since i first installed drivers from day one.

I've tried disabling Nvidia HD Audio, rolling back realtek ethernet network drivers and switching off pcie link state power management but neither of that helps.

I disabled the firewire controller through device manager, along with Nvidia HD audio and so far I have not had a black screen for a couple of days.. It's a bit sad that I have to compromise on certain functionality of my computer such as firewire in order to get the graphics to work properly... Nvidia really need to sort their drivers out.

Wow... I spoke too soon.. even after disabling everything possible... audio, firewire and all that... after a reboot the screen kept going black AGAIN!.. i've tried the various Beta drivers as well and nothing seems to be stopping this from happening.

Could it really be a faulty card? the issue does not happen when the standard windows 7 vga drivers are installed. Perhaps the nvidia drivers keep failing due to my overclocked bundle?

Could somebody who has dealt with this issue please advise.

Had exactly the same problem. Try disabling sleep/hibernation in the power management settings. This and switching to the 260.63 drivers cured it.

Tried that, the problem is still occuring. The 260.63 drivers were causing me a few problems such as very choppy video playback and framerates so I went back to the ones I had before. Even simple tasks such as scrolling on a website was a lot laggy with those drivers.

I'm really running out of ideas.. everything i've tried is not working.. I really don't want to RMA the card because I have no spare graphics card to use during the downtime and I really need my system running due to my Uni coursework and studies.

I've tried raising Cpu voltages to see if that does anything and even that doesn't work. I don't think it could be my overclocked system causing this conflict because tons of people are using the same card with systems running at 4ghz.. besides I bought the krypton bundle deal from overclockers so it's not like I did the overclocking myself to be at fault.

I highly doubt it could be the power supply because I have the corsair hx750 unit which I got with my system just very recently.

Oh just a note, sometimes viewing youtube videos or streaming from Tvcatchup.com triggers the black screen even though the computer may have been running fine for a while.

intrresting never had a problem with any of my 470's no matter what drivers i have used

bad batch maybe?

I'm really starting to believe that it must be a bad batch... i've tried literally everything to get rid of the issue but just when I get my hopes up... the black screen happens again... i've disabled hd audio, updated realtek drivers etc, turned pcie link off. Nothing fixes this issue..

I just may have to RMA the card, but first I need to make sure that it aint the overclocked bundle which i bought from ocuk that may be causing issues with the graphics drivers.

Well well... i went into bios and loaded default optimised settings, disabling the overclock... and hey presto... the black screen issue is not occuring...

So am I right in saying that the 470 GTX graphics card cannot be used in a system that is overclocked?

For anyone else who is having this problem, try loading the default settings in bios without the overclock and see if the black screeen happens after that.

I bought the i7 930 @ 4ghz krypton bundle from ocuk
