evga 480?

The 7850 sits between the 6950 and 6970 iirc. The 570, at the very worst, is at least on par with the 6970, and the 480 has about the same performance as the 570.

hot and noisey faster than ti about same as 570 my advice get a 7850 better performance only 20 pounds extra or 40 for oc version

No it's not. GTX 480 is faster. I'd say go for the EVGA GTX 480 if it's still sub £200. Great price for that card.

7850 gets my vote as well, crank up the OC and it'll match a 480 no fuss, while not sounding like a hairdryer.

is some games the 480/570 is faster but not in every game and there is usualy only 2-3 fps difference if you buy the oc version of the 7850 which is faster than a stock 480 then add a aftermarket cooler the oc 7850 is cheaper and better

i have my system running on Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 which is SLI compliant but not sure about CROSSIFRE if i go down the ATI route for future proofing, in case i want to double up later on.

There's nothing wrong with the 480. It's a hot card, but can easily be sorted out with a fan profile. You also need to remember that it only gets as hot as you read about in Furmark, and Furmark is BS. No game will make the card run as hot as Furmark does.

So you're looking at temps in the mid 80s in gaming if you have decent case cooling, and some noise that can easily be masked with a decent headset.

At idle they are very quiet, just as my 470 was. You can also consider aftermarket cooling if the noise annoys you, the Gelid Icyvision is a good cooler.

Yeah just checked and according to google it supports both. Not sure about lane distro though, as some of the cheaper boards do 16x 4x.

how hard would it be to fit something like the Gelid Icyvision? i have never modded a GFX card before so not too confident.

ALXAndy - does that mean that it will only run 1 card on 16 and the other on 4?

It depends on the board mate. But, SB boards are generally cheaper than the 1366 boards were (as are the CPUs) so you don't get a spec list as good. 2011 is the true replacement for 1366 and the prices are equally as high as 1366 were.

For 16x 16x you will need long arms for your deep pockets on 1155.

However, 16x 8x is perfectly fine, given that 16x 16x only gives 3-5% speed increases over dual 8x :)

thank you very much guys for all the advice. I am leaning towards the 480 but will be searching around for the ATI prices also. Next payday decision will come! lol
