EVGA 570 2560mb, thoughts?

I've been looking at an upgrade from my Asus 460 768 mb direct CU for a while and even though I can easily afford it I can't justify more than £300 or so on a graphics card.

I also want something relatively future proof and despite having owned and enjoyed ATI cards before in the past I want to stick with Nvidia as I just prefer the drivers.

I know with the new 680 being released there are newer Nvidia cards in my price range due to be released in a few months, but I just wanted to get some more thoughts on the 2560 mb 570.

I'm definitely enticed by the double ram compared to a reference and for gaming at 1080p I'm pretty sure the 570 is just fine for me.

I almost went for a 480 at the great price OCUK have them at but to be honest noise is a huge issue for me, it's my understanding that the 460 I currently use have has a very good noise/performance ratio and I definitely don't want to sacrifice noise for performance, at least any excessive levels of noise.

That 570 at £280 is still more than I'd like to pay but would definitely go for one at £250 or so, chances are I'll be able to in a couple of months when the new cards come out.

I've read reviews and checked benchmarks for performance and noise etc, but am interested to know more opinions from people who've used one for gaming.

I don't care about benchmarks, just real world gaming performance and particularly noise levels.

Cheers.

I'm a bit iffy about second hand, also don't have access to member's market so would be restricted to a certain auction site that I just don't want to use due to a legion of horror stories regarding it. I'll definitely consider it though.

Any more thoughts would be appreciated.

If it were me I'd get:

or

1.2GB of RAM is probably enough for just 1080p - you're paying quite a premium for that extra RAM. What games do you play?

What about a 560Ti 448?

Similar performance and a bit cheaper.

Just another idea!

Gaming wise I play a lot of new releases but currently Anno 2070, Skyrim, etc, holding off on BF 3 till I get a better card and even some games I already own like the Witcher 2 I haven't played through yet due to wanting better performance.

I was looking at the 560ti and especially the 448 edition, but whether or not it will affect things that much I wanted to go for a 2gb card minimum for future proofing. A 2gb 560ti wasn't enough of an upgrade in my view too.

I know that an AMD card would likely fit the bill better in many ways for my price range for a 2gb card too but just want to stick to Nvidia.

Thinking waiting is better but if I see a decent Nvidia 2gb + card at a good price I'll be tempted to go for it. Just liking the look of that 570 2560 for some reason.

Well the 570 will be a nice upgrade:

But if you want to wait that's understandable. Gibbo said this in another thread:

Hi there

I've had access to roadmaps for sometime and have access to the latest.

GTX 680 was intended for March/April, it is now here. Fact is NVIDIA were always intending to release GTX 680 class card now, yes the spec may have changed but this has always being scheduled launch for their top-end GTX 680 product.

Cards that will come next shall be 670Ti and 670, expect them around May time, maybe end of April, these shall both be slower than GTX 680 obviously.

GTX 680 2GB, aimed at 7970.
GTX 670ti replaces GTX 580 and shall also be 2GB at £320ish range, it will take on 7950 3GB.
GTX 670 replaces GTX 570 and no doubt 2GB also, expect £239.99 and well slightly faster than GTX 570.

GTX 560Ti and 560 are not due to be replaced until much later in the year.

All low-end, 520/550 etc. shall be re-branded into 6xx series, same cards just re-boxed as 6 series with slightly bumped clock speeds.

A dual GPU based card could and can be released when NVIDIA desire to do so, most likely called GTX 690.

Again GTX 680 is flagged on the roadmap as fastest single GPU card, will a faster single GPU card come this year. Well I guess that depends if NVIDIA feel they need one and if they do I suspect October-December timeframe.

What we can expect in April/May is AIB's making much faster and higher TDP varients of GTX 680.

Don't be surprised to see cards like EVGA GTX 680 Superclocked 4096MB soon with twice memory and higher clock speeds for £500-£600 region.

I highlighted the bits of importance :)

Hmm, I read that thread but didn't absorb the info it seems, £239 for a 2gb 570 replacement would be sweet, I presume it should be cooler, quieter and use less power too.

Damn, seems I'd better wait unless I see an offer I can't refuse in the interim.

Cheers, much appreciated.

Yeah it really depends if you want to wait, and that's up to you. Buying a 570 now wouldn't be a bad choice in that it's still a great GPU - but then if you can wait you can get something even better!

Always a dilemma with buying PC stuff is when to buy!

No problem
