Hi,

I have no idea when it started but I only started noticing it when I took the hardware out of my case. It only makes an annoying whine when under load and it is really really annoying.

Anyone had this and will they take an RMA?

Thanks

That is usually capacitor whine. Under load it would be either the graphics cards capacitors or the PSU's capacitors.

While you are playing a game try and pick up up where the whine is coming from then you know which one it will be. How old is your PSU it could just be capacitor ageing :)

I'm 99.9^% certain it's my graphics card . I think I even know which capacitor!

PSU is a 1kw silverstone, less than a year old

You should contact EVGA and try and get an RMA. This could just be the first step to something else going wrong with the card so it is best to see if you can get it replaced.

You might want to talk to the EVGA rep on these forums to see what he thinks :)

That's why i've kept "EVGA" in the thread title :p
I'd rather not bother someone at EVGA before I know if they'll allow an RMA

Odd question but do you use vsync in games? Cap whine usually becomes apparent when your graphics card is pumping out a few hundred FPS. Booting up something old like quake 3 without vsync on would probably damage a card after a few hours lol

I don't always use it, but when under stress and only producing 20 FPS, i still get it :(

I had the same problem with my gtx 580 but when I upgraded my PSU it stopped.

Can you try your 580 in another pc? Or have you got another psu you can try?.

I can, however it's a LOT of hassle as i've got a block on the cards :/

I think the problem has been there since I got the card, i just didn't notice as the fan was pretty loud. PSU wise, I don't have a spare one hanging around :(

You don't have any ATi/AMD products near it do you? :p.

There's a 2400 pro downstairs? :D:p

I have a funny noise coming from my one of my EVGA GTX580's but it only can be heard in video footage of a game ie. in between levels or a at the start of a game to give you a feel for the storyline.

Once it starts the game the noise goes away??

Anyone any ideas?

Sounds like the same problem as me. I have an email from EVGA. I'll post it once I read it...

A: Hello, are you able to uplaod a video with the sound that we can take a look if it is normal or not. This sound is normally occured by putting out a lot of frames. Can you try to set a maximum framerate like 30 or 40 at counterstrike and look if its less noise? Regards,

Lol, everyone keeps saying that!

Definitely coming from gfx card. I even know which capacitor!

I'm getting a free PSU, 6970 and a cheap CPU and mobo from the HAF x build in sig.

I can do all the testing. Except trying the 6970 out. It too is dead! Lolololololol
