I’ve just completed a build using the above PSU and the fan on PSU is very loud, you can even hear it wind up to full speed and wind down again when switched on/off. I appreciate it’s a cheaper PSU but didn’t expect it to be so loud. I went with a quiet cpu cooler to try keep the noise down but seems pointless now. Some of the online reviews for this comment on it being nice and quiet. Do you know what might cause the fan to be so noticeably loud or could it be simply a faulty psu?

Maybe faulty fan controller in it.
Can't expect very rigorous testing from el Cheapo level PSU.

On the positive side good cooling improves durability of low quality capacitors...

Budget psu built by a lesser oem (HEC) and cheap internals don't equal a quality psu. Depending on what components it is powering, it's position in the case and access to airflow can all have a effect on it. If you wanted quiet then you should have spent more money and got a decent psu with a quiet fan or hyrbid fan mode.

Thanks, in hindsight I don’t know why I didn’t give more thought to the PSU. Stupidly I completely overlooked this part. I definitely don’t think it is right as other reviews comment on it being quiet so going to see if I can return it.

What would you recommend as a good PSU to go for as a replacement at around 500w? I was looking at Focus SSR-550PX 550 W Seasonic Platinum 80. Would you consider this a good quality PSU?

Seasonic Focus Plus is basically as good as it gets without paying luxury price... for Prime serie.
And would expect it to keep operating for at least two, likely three life times of cheap low quality PSU.
While likely capable to actually outputting more power than that EVGA.

And making 10W less heat when PC is idling.
Efficiency of that EVGA is plain medieval.

Thanks again for your help, didn’t realise that EVGA was such a budget model, will teach me to check properly next time. Will go for the Seasonic focus plus 550 platinum
